Me and my Sister and IMing and talking about our family and the lack of love and all the anger and hatred and it's really getting to me because I've always felt unloved and attacked by the majority of my family. Now I feel like cutting because I'm sitting here sobbing and I don't like crying, I don't like showing emotion like that, but I don't really want to cut either. Whats another way I can deal with this? I've been a SI for 5 years now, and I figure it's about time I tried learning other ways of dealing.

If you feel like inflicting pain on yourself, please find alternatives to cutting: many people say that snapping rubber bands or just making marks on themselves with pens or markers is a suitable alternative. Another good way to cope is to do something that keeps you busy and also lets you release your emotions- try writing, playing an instrument, doing art, or even taking up a craft like sewing or knitting; in addition to making yourself feel better by doing these things, you get stuff you made yourself out of the process. It's good that you're able to talk to your sister about this, as talking is very important in dealing with these feelings.

Don't think. The more you think the more emotions you'll create, emotions that are painful and unecessary. Its okay to feel angry and sad and everything in between but give yourself a time limit.
When you are done, be firm with your self and go watch a movie, get a massage, distract yourself in order to protect yourself from yourself.
If you absolutely can't resist cutting, promise yourself you'll just do a little bit. When you are done do something fun, something you will enjoy and feel safe doing.
Talk to someone, a sponsor, a counselor, anyone. Find someone you can call in the middle of the night, and start looking for that person now. There has to be an anonymous group, like for alcohaulics anonymous.
If you can, sit still and try to watch your thoughts and emotions objectively as they pass by. If you see a thought like "I hate myself" or "I want to cut" label it "Having a thought i want to cut" and then keep on watching.
Be willing to feel pain and discomfort without doing anything.
Follow your breath.
Make up a soothing mantra, like "I love myself no matter what."
These are a few suggestions. If one doesn't work try another. Don't give up! You are worth it.

Okay, do you live at home right now? Because if you are and ur under 18 then just count off toward college or if you're over 18 and still living at home you should move out and find a room mate. And other then that, I would just relay on your friends. They can really help get you through anything. And I think it's alot better to cry then to cut

Sad that you are feeling such a strong emotional crisis right now.
But good that you are WANTING TO FIND OTHER WAYS TO DEAL WITH IT.
Sorry, I do not recognize "SI" and its meaning.
Sometimes the best thing you can do in the moment is to hug your pillow, staying safe in your own home.
You can call a crisis hotline. Call information, Operator, or the police to find the number.

Go running! It is an excellent way to release pent up anger. Feel the wind in your face as you run. Run faster! Feel the sense of freedom that no one can keep you down!

I heard someone mention using Ice once. Hold it on your skin and it will feel like a cut, but not damage you.
