Can I just buy soft tortilla shells? Flour or Corn? And can I just wrap them around something and bake them? Anyone know a good way to do it? I can't buy pre-made ones at any stores around here.

Well I can tell you the restaurant way. Take a tortilla, any kind. Use a ladle and push it down into a fryer and hold it there. It will curl up into a bowl and get crisp. Then gently take it out and put it upside down on paper towels to drain. It's done when it bubbles and seems crisp.

Below is a great recipe using broken chips if that's not what you want take some tortillas and a large enough frying pan and fry them lightly and drain on a paper towel. They are not a bowl shape but will do. You can also buy a taco bowl make that is a two piece wire bowl type thingy that you put the tortilla into and form it into a bowl shape by either deep frying or baking it.

INGREDIENTS

* 1 pound lean ground beef
* 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
* 1 (16 ounce) can chili beans
* 1 (16 ounce) bottle French dressing
* 1 head iceberg lettuce
* 1 (14.5 ounce) package tortilla chips
* 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
* 1 cup chopped tomatoes
* 4 tablespoons sour cream
* 1/2 cup prepared salsa

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and drain excess fat. Stir in the taco seasoning, chili beans and French-style dressing. Fill the dressing bottle 2/3 full of water and add to the skillet. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
2. Crush the bag of chips, open the bag, and toss the broken chips into a large bowl with the lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. When the meat mixture is done, combine it with the lettuce, tomatoes, chips and mix well. Then, add salsa and sour cream.

Try this:

2 packages (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent rolls (regular or reduced-fat)

Place a rack in the center of the oven, and preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Unwrap the crescent rolls and unroll the dough; you will have 16 triangles. Place an ungreased baking sheet or pizza stone about 14- by 16-inches on a work surface. Arrange the triangles of dough with the large ends of the triangles toward the center of the pan and the points hanging over the edge of the pan. Leave a 3- to 4-inch hole in the center. Press the dough as needed to connect the triangles and give you a nice space for placing the meat. Spoon the meat and seasonings in a ring in the center of the dough. Carefully bring up the ends of the dough, twisting and braiding the dough as needed as it crosses over the meat. (Don't get too fussy with this because after this bakes it looks gorgeous whether the meat is covered or uncovered.) Place the pan in the oven.
Bake the ring until it is golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove it from the oven to cool for 3 to 4 minutes. Place a bowl of sour cream in the center of the ring and arrange the other condiments attractively to the side.

The way I do mine is...

I just buy any tortilla wraps from the store. Preheat the oven to about 375. Find an oven safe bowl about the size that you want to make your taco bowl. I use stainless because that's what I have. Place the tortilla in the bowl, trying to make it pretty even all the way around. Then you put it into the oven and bake until it starts to hold its shape. Once it gets to that stage, I remove it from the stainless bowl and put it back in, face down, directly on the rack until it has finished crisping up. You pretty much have to be there to watch them because they don't take long. Let them cool on a rack or on paper towel.

P.S. I prefer baking them as to not add any extra oil/fat.

I hope this helps. =)

Get a stainless steel bowl and shape a raw tortilla around it and then toss into a deep fryer or hot oil.

Go to your local Mexican restaurant and buy them. Call first, have lunch or dinner, praise the food and service to the manager and pop the question. Otherwise you need to purchase a special wire basket and have a deep, wide pan to deep fry.
