Had I not wanted a PS3 I would have waited before buying either, but I now that I have it the Blue Ray blows me away.

Wait until all the kinks are worked out on both formats. Although HDMI Cables have gotten quite a bit better recently they still have their flaws also. Why is that an issue? Because HDMI is the key ingredient to viewing a 1080p video from HD DVD or Blu Ray. The most common issue is that the HDMI Cable can lose the handshake with the player thus making the picture cut in and out. The second problem is that blu-Ray and HD DVD are so saturated with security on them that not all Blu Ray DVD's are compatible right now with every Blu Ray player available and same with the HD DVD's. Let the manufacturers battle it out for a while longer and I am quite sure that the qualty will only get better and so will the prices. For now if you're looking to spend more money on a good DVD Player, I recommend the Denon DVD2930CI for around $850.00 Good Luck!

Hd Dvd and Blu Ray are both technologies capable of 1080P resolution which is the highest resolution in HDTV although not broadcast through cable or satellite. I sell consumer electronic and have done extensive research on both technologys. I have come to the conclusion the i will not buy either. I will buy the Playstation 3. Because a blu ray disc is capable of holding more than twice a much information per disc the HD DVD and has more corporate backing, It is the better technology and will be the future of HD. Since the Playstation 3 is a gaming system as well as a blu ray player, it is clearly the better solution to your HD descision.

I bought both. The HD-DVD player was pretty damn cheap and came with a nice deal. I then decided to add a PS3 since many movies only come out on Blu Ray and I could use it as a gaming machine. Plus the PS3 is a really good buy for the price (you get a lot). It allowed me to have both formats to watch all the movies out there and not worry if it's on one format or another.

Neither.
I wouldn't bother until one format triumphs over the other, or, multi-format players capable of playing both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, as well as the existing CD, DVD formats.
Both formats produce a 1080p image, and support 7.1 surround sound formats. Unless you're a real nit-picker, and have a real high-end home theater setup, you're going to be very hard pressed to see or hear the difference between them.
I don't care which one wins, I just want one of them to go away. Multiple formats are not good for the market - look at the horrible mess that is burnable DVD. Both accomplish the exact same end result, with no discernible differences, other than adding complexity and cost.

HD DVD......the reason? it's so much cheaper, I bought the xbox 360 HD DVD drive for 200$ and it includes the King Kong HD DVD and the remote control.
Even a standalone HD DVD player is 500$ and cheaper ones are on the way, which is less than any bluray player.
One thing I like better about bluray though is that they have more movie studios supporting them than HD DVD does.
Good thing my roomate has a ps3 so I can buy bluray discs too hehehe.
