My doctor just prescribed me 0.5mg of Klonopin, to take as needed, for my anxiety. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience that they can share in regards to this drug. Any side effects such as weight gain, etc....

Thanks~

I take 1mg in the morning and 0.5mg at night for anxiety. I've had no negative side effects from the drug that I can think of. I have definitely not gained any weight from it. If anything, it may make me a bit drowsy. It is addictive but I have not had a problem with that since I take it at certain times of the day, not 'as needed'. I did get addicted to Ativan because it was on a 'take as needed' basis and I found I 'needed' it all the time after awhile. I've found klonopin to be a great anti-anxiety medication because it's longer lasting than other benzos.

Klonopin is in the benzodiazepine category of medicine. It is similar to Valium (diazepam), Ativan (lorazepam), and Xanax (alprazolam). Benzodiazepines are prescribed for a variety of conditions, but generally, as in your case, they are given to patients for acute anxiety.

Klonopin works by sedating the central nervous system, thus calming an individual and lessening the effects of an anxiety attack. When taking Klonopin, you may experience general relaxation, drowsiness, difficultly concentrating, confusion, ataxia (unsteadiness / clumsiness), and in the long run, possibly weight gain due to less activity.

typically a doctor will only prescribe a benzodiazepine for a short duration of time, as they can become habit forming. If you are having generalized anxiety, talk with your doctor about an SSRI antidepressant, a tricyclic antidepressant, or BuSpar, a medication like the benzosdiazepines which doesn't cause sedation or lead to dependency.

I was on klonopin for a while (until my mom made them take me off of it...), but I had no side effects...besides the fact that I seemed to want more and more of it (which really made it suck when I ran out and couldnt get more...) anyways...be careful because it can be very addictive...

There extremely are no undesirable element outcomes if taken as prescribed. It does reason drowsiness, no weight benefit so do no longer difficulty. it extremely is greater appropriate then xanax, that's rather addictive and can reason existence threatening withdraw indicators. yet like countless drugs, all of us reacts distinctive. wish this permits : )
