Will they be my pets if I feed them?

I try to see if they have collars, some will run away, some will sniff my hand, let me pet them. They are so pretty, I love them!

If you feed "feral" cats, they will come back regularly for more. It is unlikely that an adult feral cat will ever become a pet - they are just too used to being wild. What you will accomplish is to make more cats, as well fed cats breed more often than those who are poorly nourished.

Do you want them to hang around all the time? Stray cats are just looking for a place to call home, especially an eating place. Do you have other cats? I do and cat doors. Those who feed strays on our block, have many strays that will visit. We have had strays visit, and my cats are constantly running them off our property. We even had strays coming in the house until I shut the cat door to the house.

We had several strays eating my cats' food (in garage) and even a raccoon. It scared my son to death one night when he heard noise in the garage and there was this big burly raccoon who growled at him. My husband said that it was probably a female and had a nest fairly close. We are not in the country, but the country is not too far away from us.

They'll come back for food, so if you dislike cats, don't feed them.

As one person said, a feral cat won't really befriend you. If one of those cats used to belong to someone and was then dumped, he will become your friend because he remembers human affection

I had this problem too. I wanted to feed the cat because I felt bad for it, but I realized that feeding it would only make her more capable of reproducing. So I called the animal shelter, and they said I could bring her in for no charge. It is a no kill shelter, and they spayed her, gave her shots, and (hopefully) placed her for adoption! I think this was the best solution.

They will stick around more, but I doubt they will become your pet if they are fully grown adult cats. If they are kittens you may be able to re-train them into domesticated lives, but feeding feral cats alone will not make them your pet.

The cats might belong to someone and they are roaming around. If you feed them they will be back for more. It's best you don't feed them unless you plan on continuing to take care of them.

Thanks for asking

If you feed them they will come around more often and probably start depending on you for food, then they will be your pets.

If you feed them, the law then recognizes them as yours if there is ever any problems.
