Beale AFB, it is at the base of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the Sacramento Valley, California. It is about 35 minutes from Sacramento and 20 Minutes to Marysville/Yuba City. I like it because it is out in the country, but not to far from the city. It is where the spyplanes are headquartered. There's a lake nearby for fishing and camping. The climate is typical Northern California, basically the best in the world! Good Luck with your career and thanks for serving our country.

Misawa AB in Misawa Japan was my absolute favorite. Misawa is a more rural setting..about 8 hours drive from Tokyo..but the people and the base are great. We lived there for 7 years and would love to go back. In the states, Andrews is pretty good. Major metropolitin area so lots to do. Close to NYC, skiiing and the shore. The only thing I would say is that living in the area immediately off base is not something I would suggest..the school systemsn in that district are in a downward spiral and many of the people living on base consider private school or homeschooling. We moved into another county and while my husband has to commute 50-60 minutes one way (not that unusual for DC I might add) we are living in a good school district and wonderful, culturally diverse neighborhood.

My favorite is always the one I'm at!
Langley... awesome area, lots of things to do, close to DC, great weather. Loved it there!! Stayed there while hubby went remote.
Dyess.... not so much. Nuff said
Spangdahlem.... would go back in a heart beat. Despite extremely high ops tempo, we loved it there. Weather was super (ok, it rains a lot, get an umbrella), the travel is great, the people are wonderful, and the food is to die for!
Ramstien... used to be a neat base, then got to big for my liking. Way to Americanized in and around the base.
Minot.... Great place! Slow ops. Lots of outdoors stuff to do. Great people. Loved the weather, yes, even at 20 below, I loved the weather!
RAF Mildenhall... loving it! Travel. Friendly people. Small language barrier at times. :) Weather... rain.... get an umbrella! Quiet.
And the rest are closed down.....
Best advice... the base is as good as you make it! If you want to have a good tour there, then you will!

I like Bolling. It was tucked in along the Patomic River. The DC area is a great place to live. It's so close to everything. I was stationed in Misawa, and it was a nice cozy little base back then, with a ski hill, golf course and on the bay. The F-16 squadron had not arrived yet. I didn't care for Yakota.

Travis AFB is nice...one of the larger bases, less than an hour from San Francisco and Sacramento. The nearby towns are Fairfield and Vacaville - Vacaville is prettier, but about 10 degrees warmer because it's blocked from the winds. Oh yeah, it's really windy there.

Worry about getting thru ROTC first, getting your commission, then your assignments!
It doesn't really matter, the Air Force will send you where you are needed to include Iraq, Kosovo, Afghanistan and other exotic locales!
