i want the skyline of Chicago on my back and my girlfriend says thats a stupid idea so i was just wondering what other people think. i'm probably going to get it no matter what because it is MY body and not hers.

It's not stupid.
Chicago has a really cool looking skyline, and a lot of people I know have hometown tattoos.
A lot of people I know get "NOVA" or "RVA" on their inner lip.
That's northern virginia and richmond virginia, extremely common in my neighborhood.

It would be original that's for sure and you're right, it is your body but how about having just the word CHICAGO written instead in big bold letters. I have seen some very nice tatoos that are done by using bold lettering.People will still know that you are proud of your hometown.Here is an example of what I mean. The only opinion that matters is yours. If you want it and can legally get it, go for it. If she respects you she'll accept it and maybe even come to like it. Ask her to be polite about your choice and support you. I think it sounds like a cool idea, it should turn out to be beautifully done art if the shading and heights don't get messed up on your back. Find a good artist and it will be great.

Sounds awesome! Get it. Kat von D did one on a girl of LA on her arm. It was cool. Tattoos are a personal thing. Your gf needs to realize that you want a tattoo and it will make you happy. End of story.

If Chicago means something to you then go for it. You are right it is your body and you can do whatever you want to it. I think it would look pretty tight.

i dont think its stupid, i am eventually going to get a Florida tattoo on me someday, probibly not like the state of florida lol, but something that reminds me of home, us florida natives are VERY few but proud!
