why do i hear almost nothing of muslim moderates condemning the violence carried out by the radicals? not only toward westerners but also toward their own people?
serious question- not meant to offend!

If you're like most people, you get your news from the usual media outlets; TV, internet, newspaper, etc. The vast majority of media outlets are owned by for-profit corporations, so ratings are the main goal. What is more interesting and important to an American audience, moderate or radical Islam? That said, I have seen some minor coverage of very good Muslims that see the radicals as perverting their faith.

For the same reason that moderate Republicans in the Government have stayed with Bush through all these years of terrible mistakes and lack of leadership in the White House.
No matter how you cut it, if you are in disagreement with your teams record or actions, you still don't change teams.
If you can't stand the direction of your leader, you just keep you mouth shut about your doubts because someday you my be the leader, and then you need all the support you can get your hands on.

There are many Muslim moderates all over the world. Unfortunately, many of the are silent just like the Moral Majority was in the United States was until a leader like Jerry Falwell arose and gave them their voice and direction.

There are several Muslims that are on YA regularly that speak out against the violent acts that are going on over there by other Muslims.

Because no one will put those people on TV. Trust me they're out there, I have friends who are moderate Muslims but I've never seen any TV camera's around them. They always seem to be in the Mid East following around suicide bombers...what a coincidence

Listen to NPR during the day. There's a program called BBC World Have Your Say. There is always a good discussion by all sides.

It is that kind of commitment (misguided or not) which will prevent the US from ever prevailing in the Middle East (in spite of the government's attempt to put a spin on the events there).
