Whenever I jog and drink anything (including water) before or during my jog, my stomach starts hurting. Is there anything I can do so that it doesn't hurt?
Thanks,
Mark

1) make sure you eat a little something at least 30-50 minutes before you run. That will help you from having some cramping.

2) avoid too much caffeine

3) warm up. If you warm up, your body tend not to cramp, including your stomach.

4) small sips of water/driink

5) avoid antiinflammatory such as Motrin and ibuproten. Runners tend to take too much of those medication to help with their injuries, and that can cause stomach pain.

6) slow down when you have to drink while you run. That way, you can let the drink go down better when you run.

Running is very similar to swimming. You have to watch what you put in your tummy immediately before the exercise.
When you know you are going to run a long distance, hydrate yourself throughout the day. Drink water, water and more water. (I'd say at least 3 8oz glasses).
Right before your run, take a small sip of water (or a sports drink - no juice or soda - too much sugar!). During your run, you don't want to drink hardly any liquids at all. If you are thirsty, take a couple sips and swish it in your mouth. Then spit it out. This works really well and you won't get a cramp.
You also might want to try drinking room temperature (or just slightly chilled) liquids. If it is super cold, that also might be attributing to your cramp.
Good luck!

stay well hydrated during the day and try drinking 30 minutes before you run, so you don't have a full stomach of fluid when you run. during running take small sips, don't guzzle the water. If you are running short distances you may want to wait until your are done running to drink.
