My dad is giving me $20,000 towards a car for my 16th birthday (which is in about a month and a half) and I also will get $1500 cash on my birthday as a gift (and I can put that money towards a nicer car if I want to). So I'm deciding between the 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe and the 2008 Scion Tc... the Scion is in my price range and I will get to keep my birthday money, yet the Altima Coupe takes all my birthday money as well. I like the Altima better, but is it really worth my birthday money? Keep in mind I really don't have much else to ask for, but I keep stressing out because I don't want to make the wrong decision.

The Altima Coupe has many negatives as well, like a small backseat, but I like that one better than the Scion. I was happy with the Scion at first, but now that I've found the Altima Coupe I keep wanting to have that instead. Do you have any advice for me? Like which car should I choose and why? Thanks so much! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone so much for your help! I've decided to get the Altima, and I definitely think giving up my birthday money is worth it, since it's the car I really want.

And I really don't appreciate the people who said that I'm so spoiled. My dad donates far more than that to charity every year, and I'm a very hard worker myself, so it's not like I don't deserve a car for my birthday.

But thank you so much to everyone who gave me advice, I really appreciate it!

You don't have to rush into anything. Also consider this, you can get a used car that is less than a year old and about 7-10K miles on them for a bunch less money. Consider that for a while. Also take a look around and check out all your options, there are a lot more than the two cars that you mentioned. There are Fords, Chevys, Dodges, Lincolns, etc. You have all kinds, take your time, you will have this car for some years, I would think, so get something you will enjoy.

Well if you get the scion you will have extra cash, but on the other hand the Altima is nicer, I would go with the Altima since you said you don't have much else to ask for. It is all of your money but it's a better car. Personally I would just get a new mustang, but thats me!

Compare Insuranc on the two, and also consider the amount that it will cost to license because of the price of the car you cant license it until you pay for the I think like 10% tax on it.

Personally I would buy the Altima, because the Scion is made by Toyota, and I hate Toyota. H8!!! Anyway, Tim, don't expect to get a V8 with that mustang. To get a V8 you'll spend 25K, base price.

BTW: you're spoiled. The day my dad even considers giving me 20K is the day he gets lung cancer.

I would get a Nissan Z. Yes it only seats 2, but it has more horsepower, and has been in production since like 2003-04. So you could get a pre-owned one for the price of a TC without all of the Tax! Or do the same with a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky.

Buy the only type of car any 16 year old should be driving. Something cheap, old and with less than 120hp. Spoiled brat.

Put it towards your education, you won't have to sponge as much from your parents. You are too young to have a car.
