Jesus said:
"I am the door, if anyone enters by me, he will be saved."

This is why Christians scare me

This is a metaphor, a comparison of two objects using direct language. If Jesus had said "I am LIKE a door, or just AS a door", it would be called a simile.

Jesus is using the image of a door to describe Himself as the one thing any person must pass to enter the Kingdom of Heaven: they have to walk through a door! He wasn't claiming to be a big piece of wood, for heaven's sake...

Jesus used a lot of pictorial language for His audience's sake. He described Himself as a Shepherd, a Sheepgate, a Farmer, a Door, and an Estate Master. Speaking in these terms allowed His audience to readily associate things they already well familiar with, with the Heavenly principles He was trying to communicate.

Remember:
Metaphor-Description in direct terms (all men are dogs)
Simile-Discription in indirect terms, using "like" or "as" (all men are like dogs)

To understand Jesus' sayings, you have to be able to think abstractly.

I don't understand why you are scared of Christians.

Okay...
Do you have any idea what that statement meant in the context of first-century Hellenistic thought? Does your understanding of that sentence harmonize with early Christian theology? How do you know?
