Hidden intentions will eventually display themselves, either in word or deed. The only way to detect a person's hidden agenda (if one exists) is to spend time with them, examining their words and their actions. This requires a great attention to inter-personal detail.
Quixotically, a person with a hidden agenda, depending on what it is and how desperately it is hidden, may avoid emotional and personal intimacy in an attempt to guard their secret. That can be one BIG clue in and of itself!
