I have a beretta model 92f 9mm and was wondering if anyone knows about how many rounds should be put through the barrel berfore one should replace it, Would it be in the 1,000's or 10,000's....or something more ? I do alot of target shooting with freinds, kinda little freindly competition, And just would like my firearm working at its best. In general if anyone knows what is the general feeling among people who know guns in general is the beretta a decent gun ?

I own (2) Beretta 92F's one in blue and another in stainless. I own a Gun Shop and I'm a Combat Pistol Instructor and have been for the last 20+ years. I have used the 92F Blue in PPC and USPSA in sanctioned Matches for at least 10 1/2 years and have without exaggerating, at the very least put 25,000+ rounds of 9mm thru mine. No malfunctions, except for (1) broken spring and little or no barrel wear. Factory ammunition and my own Match reloads. The Beretta factory have tested the 92F in their labs that have fired in excess of 90,000 rounds...As a Dealer I can tell you Beretta has one of the best records for extensive test firing in the industry. The government has awarded the contract to supply the military with the 92F sidearm twice in past years. No other manufacturer with the exception of Colt has ever accomplished this. It is well made, easy to handle and shoot well, and can take the punisment that the military can dish out. What better proof or endorsement of a weapon is better than that. There are thousands of 92F's in service right now in Iraq

You've got a high quality firearm. I would not worry to much about wearing out the barrel. Just note how accurate the gun is now. When the accuracy starts to drop off, then consider a new barrel. I have fired roughly 50,000 rounds through my .45 Para during practice and competition over the past 20 years. It shoots just fine.

It is somewhere well over 10,000 rounds. What will happen is the riflings lose there sharpness. That will have a marginal effect. The other thing you should check is that the chamber cut remains sharp. These are things you can check. Ultimately you know it is worn out when accuracy goes to pot.

Guns do wear out. Rails get worn down, springs get worn out triggers get shoddy, firing pins get dull, barrel linkages get sloppy, extractors get rounded (in a bad way) and barrels wear out. Talk to anyone who shoots uspsa regularly and he will tell you he replaces barrels every 1-2 years.

You can actually burn out a pistol barrel by shooting rapid-fire too often say a thousand or less rounds. If you are prudent and let the barrel cool off a bit between shooting sessions it should go 5,000 to 10,000 rounds. How to tell? If a regular 115 grain ball .9mm bullet goes in all the way to the casing from the muzzle end of your pistol, its time to replace the barrel. Also, if your rounds begin to keyhole or your accuracy is going awry.

Depending on conditions it could last as long as you live. Sort of like a car; if you hotrod it and mistreat it the life is short; if you take care of it and use it prudently it lasts a long time; I have a suburban that is 40 years old and I drive it every day; have a new cadillac but I prefer the old suburban.

Unless you shoot a lot of steel jacketed machine gum ammo in it, you will probably never wear it out.
