My question is
When i turn on my laptop and get to the windows page it takes me about 4 minutes before i can even think about clicking on the internet otherwise it will crash.
Ive heard that norton anti virus really slows things down.
Can anyone share some light.

how about going to start, run, typing msconfig, click ok. go to start up tab and uncheck messenger, itunes and video players, things of that nature so there not starting up when you turn computer on.
the only thing they do is take time for computer to load and eat up bandwidth. other than that do nothing having them start up if your not using them.

Prob combination of spec. and software in the start up routine.

Could yo post a little on the machine spec? CPU and Ram would help.

Also have a look at the software pre-installed by the vendor. There is usually a bunch of c**p that sits there, using resource slowing down load times. To do this go to Start>Run>type msconfig>Startup.

Finally, if you are low on system memory or space, suggest running Ccleaner to clear out any rubbish which might have accumulated.

Norton Internet Security can cause a very slow start-up like you describe, but it does not usually causes crashes. You need to check all the programs that run when Windows starts and make sure you have the latest Vista-compatible versions (I presume you have Vista). Also, make sure you send the error report to Microsoft, they may know a solution.

Also check for scheduled tasks - which anti-virus programs like to start.

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Scheduled Tasks

You may want to disable any virus scans and just do them manually every month or so for awhile to see if this is the problem.
