I did volunteer work after Hurricane Katrina.. since i'm just 30 min North of New Orleans. Gutted out houses ..
.. Usually just do local volunteer work.. especially around the holidays .. such as Christmas to help feed families. Giving gifts to children.. being in company of elders with no family..
I've joined both red cross and habitat for humanity for those.
I hope by the time i'm in my 30s .. I'll be financially stable enough to do volunteer work in other countries.. i would love to visit a few countries in Africa and provide some kind of educational system to many poorer children

I don't mind at all to tell you the volunteer work I do or have done, but it is none of your business to "determine what the motives would be".
For one year, I volunteered at the local nursing home a couple, to read and play cards with and visit with people sometimes 3 days a week. I didn't know anyone there and received no monetary compensation.
I cook(ed) meals for bereaved families who had lost a family member.
I volunteer to pray for "travelers" who will mail to me, or call and tell me their traveling plans; daily or long-distance trips.
I volunteer to walk and pray for my neighborhood and local city gov't.
I voluntarily load up groceries and take them to where the Lord leads me when I fast.
I volunteer to make baby quilts for other people's babies.
I voluntarily make "name" blessing plaques for people's children.
AND MUCH MORE and my personal reason for doing anything I do is because I want to! Many times the people I do these things for don't know it was me that did it.

I have an interest in family history. I spend an hour a day indexing names and information from early census records for Family Search online. It is a kind of data entry so that these record can be put online for people to search their ancestors.

I volunteered to tutor children in reading because I love reading, and I volunteered at the hospital because I wanted to help people.

I have volunteered to help my family and friends many times but I have not joined any organization..I always wanted to join the peace Corp...but that takes good health and enough money to support yourself while you are there. I think there may still be time to redeem myself though..

I am a ministry professional so I have little time for volunteer work. I have served as minister, teacher, missionary, counselor, maintenance supervisor, painter, lawn maintenance, carpenter and librarian. All were involved in ministry.

I volunteer as a parenting instructor for pregnant moms who are having a tough go of it financially or emotionally. I help them find agencies in our city to help them through.
Motive: I want to intentionally help those who may otherwise choose abortion over life.

I volunteer at a free inner city health clinic once a month. I do it because I love people ever since I realized God loves me.
