I have well over 30 tattoos and YES the color will flake a bit. Whatever you do...do not scratch or pick at it or else it will pull the color out of your tattoo. A tattoo is an injury and has had trauma. It scabs over like any wound and will flake the scabbing off. Some of the initial color will come off...this is normal. It should begin to itch soon and if it does, smack it. Sounds crazy but smacking it will satisfy the itch without pulling out the color.
Apply a thin layer of Curel (non-scented) or Udderly Smooth (both available at Walmart or any other pharmacy). When you take a shower, do not rub the area with soap or the towel...pat it dry. It will flake for anywhere from a week to two.
It will be fine as long as you do the above. =)

You might want to be careful with what you are using to help it heal. Alot of tattoo artists wil suggest a and d ointment. However, I have found that Burt's Bees Milk and Honey lotion works really well. You will lose some of the color when it scabs...but that is normal. just keep an eye on it and make sure you are applying either lotion or ointment to it regularly till it has all scabbed and peeled. Also dont scratch it or let it dry out tilll its healed.

yes, some of the colour comes of as the skin peels. Use a antibacterial cream to avoid infection. Infection is the thing to watch. I use a baby cream, good for bums and good for tattoos.
AND DON'T SCRATCH, GRIN AND BEAR IT ,AND THE RESULTS WILL BE AWESOME WHEN THE SKIN HEALS.
Keep out of swimming pools for a couple of weeks. You don't want chlorine damaging the tattoo. Finally remember a tattoo is like clothing. The more sun, the more it will be bleached of it's colour. You can get them retouched up if this happens.

That is perfectly normal. You can't tell how a tattoo will look untill a few weeks after yo have gotten it. Most tattoo palars will do free touch-ups if the color fades or is off. Call your tattoo guy and see what their policy is on touch ups. There is no need to worry untill a few weeks after you get it though. Not to mention the color will fade with time.

Your tattoo isn't infected. And not all tattoos scab up. The skin that peels off is going to be colored. It's all normal.

Yes, its going to peel a little bit. Make sure to keep it moist with tattoo gue or something similar, dont take a bath, only a shower and dry it! but keep it moist and when it heals, it will be just as colorful as the day you got it.

I think so. I don't have any, but I've had a number of friends who have, and all of theirs have peeled colored skin. I asked my one friend (whom I called Tat Matt... he had a lot of ink) if that was natural, and he said yeah, the skin always peels, and the color along with it...

yep...when all 5 of mine peeled I could take off half inch sections that were exact replicas of that portion of my tattoo (yes I peel them even though you shouldnt...but i cant help it and I have never yet needed a touch up so I got lucky) but of course your going to get the colour off...its just the top layer...the colour goes deep into the skin so nothing to worry about...its perminant...its not going anywhere.
