my husband and i recently found a kitten out on the street she is really tiny and has bright blue eyes but they turn a reddish brown color when shes inside im not sure if this is just bc shes scared or the lighting... i've always owned dogs as my husband has had both dogs and cats. I just want to know how old she is before i take her to the vet as we're not sure if were going to keep her.

the blue/gray eyes sounds like she is under 8-12 weeks old . the eyes should get the lines (iris) showing at about 10-14 weeks.
Does she have some toothe stubs they should start comeing in at about 3 - 4 weeks
being real tiny she is probably 2-4 weeks old.
is she walking solidly on all fours? if so then closer to 3-4 weeks.
some will take to a bowl of kitty milk at 3-4 weeks while most still need the tit. cow milk is not so good for little kitties

A good estimate is that kittens weigh 1 pound per month for the first 5-6 months. After that they will either grow a little more and be a small cat or grow a lot and be a big cat. So, if she weighs 16 ounces, she is 4 weeks old. If she weighs 2 lbs, she is 8 weeks old, etc.

All kittens are born with blue eyes. Contact your local shelter and they'll take the kitten. If she's really young and not yet weaned she'll have to be fed a special formula or possibly suckle on a mom cat that's at the shelter.

It sounds like it's between 2-4 weeks if the eyes are open and it's still tiny. I've just rescued a kitten myself he was under 1lb in weight at this age. By the end of four weeks, he was 1.1lbs. So if he's tiny and fits in the palm of your hand, that is my estimate.

It sounds like she's only about a month old. Does she still have her "kitten" fur? The fur that sticks straight up along her back and on her face? If so, that is also a sign that she is only about a month old. Her eyes turning red is because of the light. My cats are mostly grown and theirs do it too.

permanent teeth start to come in about 6-7 months...take a look at the teeth...take the kitty to the vet and they should be able to tell...if it is an adult the adult teeth should be in and there may be build up, which could be a good indication that the cat is a year or more.

Your vet will be able to tell you for sure. I'll need a lot more info other than that. How big is she? What do her teeth look like? Does she walk with her claws in or out? Is she eating solid food, or can she eat canned?

Can you get a weight on her? The estimate is 1 month per pound. Example: 1.5lbs is about 6 weeks. Its a rough estimate and it can vary due to the size of the cat, if its healthy..... I bet once she settles down she will come out of her shell not sure if thats what you want. :-)

well,

if the eyes are open, and she doesn't need formula/milk- then she's at least 6-8 wks old.

other than that- hard to tell over the computer.
