It's in the Washington-Baltimore corridor, about halfway between, which means that unemployment is low and there is a lot of jobs. I live in this area, and lived at Ft. Meade, albeit decades ago.

The base itself is very nice for an army base, with a lake in the middle. The area is nice - nearby places to live include Columbia (already mentioned) and Laurel - we lived in Laurel, where housing was a little less expensive, and on base for a while.

There are a lot of jobs - government, administrative, technological and service industry lead the pack.

You are very close to Washington, DC here - make sure you make use of that proximity!

Fort Meade is the actual base, you can consider that Odenton, Severn in Anne Arundel County, north tip of Laurel, PG County.
Ft. Mead is between Baltimore, and DC, and about actually not a bad commute to Annapolis. (taking 295 to 197, to route 50 smack into Annapolis, or route 301)

Jobs are pretty good here in DC, the majority of jobs around here are mostly government. Either state, local, or federal. The majority are mostly federal. If you don't get a chance to get yourself a federal job, a contractor can definitly hire you...based on skill.
Thing to be mindful of is traffic. Take it from me, living here as a DC resident is nothin nice when rush hour hits...in the Fort Mead area, 295/Batl-Wash (B/W Parkway) sucks..depending the way you go.. our beltway, 495 is a nightmare..i'm pretty sure the Baltimore beltway is the same (695). I would use mass transit.. Marc, Metro, depending how far out you decide to live in. Good luck..

Vote for best answer.... :-)

I loved that area when I was stationed there. I actually lived in Columbia, which is a short drive to the west. There are plenty of jobs in the Columbia area, and everything is a short trip away. You could commute to Baltimore as well, or Ellicott City for a decent job.

there is no longer plenty rapidly in feet. Meade... actual around the nook is Arundel generators Mall, that's a extensive procuring complicated. you would be centrally placed between D.C. and Baltimore the place there's a set of historic landmarks and museums. Annapolis is a few a million/2 hour away with great water oriented activities. good success in case you may pass!

personally, I hate it here. I live in Columbia and am NOT impressed by the area at ALL. close proximity to DC and Baltimore is nice, but the traffic sucks and it is expensive here.

I personally choose not to work, so I have no idea about the job market.

Can't wait to PCS though.

expensive! If you have govt experience and/or a clearance you'll be fine. If not it will be tough.
