I strongly recommend using a credit card when making purchases online. With a credit card, you're only liable up to $50, credit card also offers one-time or full-time password protection before making any purchases. It's fraud-proof qualities are not the best but far better than a debit card or a check.

If you use an e-check then you authorize that person to draw any sum at all. In purely technical terms they become a legal signer on your account. Very few people are aware of this but it the way it is. DO NOT USE AN E-CHECK unless you are very certain about the reputation and quality of the firm, such as a public utility.

Debit cards do not posses the same legal protections credit cards posses as one is a withdrawal and the other is an extension of credit.

Use a credit card, but preferably one with a smaller limit. If fraud did occur, you will get more headaches if there is a large sum to draw against than a small sum.

You have the most protections with a credit card. And the least with a check.

In fact... even if you use a debit card with a visa/MC logo in the store or whatever... use it as "credit" not "debit". Again, you have Federal protections. Not so with other forms of payment.

An-d always make sure whatever site your paying on is secure...
