There are better cars out there, but not for $6650. Most new car dealerships aren't going to sell a car that's in bad shape. It would hurt their reputation too much. My guess is it's a clean trade-in with higher than average miles for the year model, consequently, a low price. Most car dealers want to have something on the lot for people at a wide variety of price points, not just the ones that want to spent $20,000 or more. It might need something minor, like tires or brakes, but I would be surprised if it had anything badly wrong with it. If it did, they would send it to a wholesale auction. Resale value on these cars is very low, mostly because there are so many of them. If you can be happy with a car that isn't fast, flashy, or beautiful, then it sounds like a pretty good bargain.

car guy is right.. usually any junk goes automatically to the wholesaler and winds up on the mom and pop lots within a few weeks.

Normally the price will possibly be low if it's a stripper model with high miles... Loans can usually be written with no issues up to 75,000 miles.

You didn't tell anymore info on the car..But usually a new car dealer won't sell anything they got an idea of being in an accident or a lemon (reputation as the other said)

Some dealers will put a car low ball like this to get you on the lot to sell you the more expensive one..

Actually, a base model taurus for that year (no cruise and no cassette or cd and figuring 50k miles) trades in for about $6500 so he's tacking on a few hundred and low balling it probably to generate business.

They look nice, drive nice but they are a piece of crap, I have owned them and worked on them, neither have been pleasant experiences! The trannys normally crap out after 120K miles if you baby it. They cost about $3000 to replace, the steering racks wear out quick I've heard. The cooling system clogs quickly and cost a small fortune to fix. The above poster is right, buy an older Crown Victoria, I have owned a few of them and have never had to even open the hood, they have way more power and get better gas mileage, handle better, turn sharper and have more luggage room.

I advise you not to get a taurus.

They get quite bad reviews and are not very powerful.
The Crown Victoria is more reliable and has a larger engine, V8

but If I were you I would look into buying a used impala or passat. Just some vehicles that are about the same size.

carguy and gearbox are telling it straight. Don't listen to the haters. I've had a couple of Taurus. One has been thru my step Dad, myself, my daughter, and she sold it to a friend. The last I heard it had about 275K miles on it and still ran perfect. Always had maintenance on it since new. Oil was changed every 3K too. It was nothing special, just good cheap transportation, which is what we were looking for.
