Ok, my mom was married to my dad for 27 years before my dad passed on. It's been 8 years since he's been gone and my mother has finally found someone to settle down with again. I haven't met him yet. He sounds like a really nice guy and I'm really nervous about meeting him. I want him to like me since he and my mother are seriously considering getting married. What are some things I can say to ease the tension and make him feel like part of the family? I haven't seen my mom this happy for 8 years and I just want to make a good impression and let him know how much of a difference he's made in my mom...

(I'm 24 and live 3 hours away from my mother)

I am very happy for you and your mom. The best impression you can give him is just be kind and offer anything he might like to have; water, juice, soda or beer. Take the opportunity to really get know him fully. Don't be afraid to ask personal questions, before he can be part of the family, make sure he is suitable for your mom to make that happen.

He's going to enjoy who are so just be yourself and learn who he is.

God bless

Here is the stock corny answer that, sadly, is still the correct one. Be yourself. You are an adult. Your mother is an adult. Even if you don't like this guy, you don't have to see him every day. The only thing you should worry about is if he is a sleazball or something. So be happy that your mom has found someone, and you will be just fine.

Say, it's great to meet you! Or you cold say, how'd you meet my mom. Something nice then you can try and find out what he likes to do, maybe ask him to go to a football or baseball game with you, it would make it seem as if you're trying to act more dad-like with him.

Just be yourself, and everything will go fine. Maybe tell him how happy he has made your Mom, and just make him feel at home

Treat him just the way do other people you are introduced. Smile and show him you are happy he is with your mother. Do not go overboard, it will look phony. Good Luck
