The other people, same situation with me, except for the part where other people compliment me. lol. You rmom is your mom and she has lived with you all your life and will say anything to get you to shut up. But think of it this way, why would seven different people come up to you and say you have a great voice.... probably because you have a great voice. Would you go up to someone and say they have a great voice, but actually sounds like they're crying... I don't think so. So believe what you want, but there is a reason people come up to you.

Go to school and ask for an honest opinion from the choir teacher. Or, if you really want to, ignore your mother and join the church singing group! Who cares if you have a bad voice? If you're having fun and people around you are encouraging you, go for it!
Your mother may just be trying to protect you from outside criticism by giving you her own, or she has other reasons that she just doesn't know how to explain.
Whatever the case, if singing is your dream, get on it!
Good luck!

Don't worry about it unless its something you want to do, otherwise its just un-needed stress for one thing.
I would say go with what you think, and if you decide to join a chior (church or school) You dont have to know how to sing, you will learn. But trying to decide whether one person is right over another won't help. Its like saying Rock is better than Rap etc, differs by taste.

It is hard to have confidence when someone so important to yourself esteem could be so harsh but if you have people who like your voice take their encouragement to heart and go for it. Singing in the choir has many benefits and it will give you an outlet to explore your talent. I sang in a band for a few years and it sometimes just took one mean person's criticism to shoot me down and now I look back and realize I should of focused on the positive. People will always try to hurt you or belittle your potential and sadly it often as absolutely nothing to do with you!

Try out for American Idol. If you end up being among the ones that get made fun of at the beginning of the show...then you know that the ones who told you that you could sing were lying and your mother was telling the truth. ha!! ha!!

Believe the strangers. Did you mom ever have dreams of being a singer in her youth, do you know? Sometimes when dreams are crushed, mothers tend to go in one of two directions with their children...either live precariously through them and push them into that dream or totally knock the talent in the child out of jealousy (mind you, I'm not saying your mom is jealous or if she is that she is even aware of it, but telling you you sing terribly is not exactly constructive criticism.) Try talking to her to get to the real route of her problems with your singing. Good luck.

My mom always said I had a bad voice, but a music teacher said I had a nice voice. And that I could be really good with practice. So I don't know who to believe!
Make a video or yourself singing and put it on Youtube for feedback. You wouldn't have to show your face. :0)

I can't answer this, but I'll try. Either your mom is really mean or those people were just being nice to you. Believe who you know is telling the truth.

I sing like a cow, but that doesn't stop me from making ppls ears bleed.
They can either join me in singing or leave me alone.
