Yep it's only hair, it doesn't have to be that way forever and it's the millenium. 30 years ago it might of been more of a talked about subject but these days it's just every day life. When I was her age I had the bottom of my hair died pink and blue streaks all over it. I know plenty of other girls my age that were'nt allowed to do that kind of stuff and ended up all the worse for it, feeling opressed and restricted and ended up rebelling. She's becoming a young lady so she needs to make the odd random decision like that to feel like she has some of the control. If she regrets it and thinks she looks stupid, all the better - she made a mistake and might consider less risky aesthetic choices in future!

Ok, I'm not a Christian but felt compelled to respond. I remember when I was that age and there are so many things you cant allow your child to do that he/she wants. As a mom of 3, I also place alot of restrictions on my kids for safety or other reasons they're just not able to understand. On the other hand, everyone needs to express themselves or have some freedom of a way to show personality or beliefs. It really wont hurt your daughter down the line to dye her hair whatever color she wants...or dress weird.Kids need an outlet too and C'mon-its only hair!

I am not clear on hair coloring being an issue within the Christian faith. However, I think 15 is too young to dye ones hair, any color. It is good that at 15 a child is wanting to express themselves and their independence, but I would ask the child to wait until they were 18.

While 15 is young in my view to be doing the full trip with hair dye, i do think that if you say no to something that seems small to her she may feel a bit upset, afterall at 15 you want responsibility, trust and the chance to use your own judgement.
Talk to her, be interested and even look at hair styles with her.
Hair Dye isnt anti-christian, it doesnt signify anything terrible. Be Glad your daughter isnt out doing anything stupid :)

LOL Oh, yeah! She's had rainbow, Lily Munster black and white with neon pink and purple added. She's been blond, red, brown, black and all the colors in between.
We started getting her hair dyed when she was in 6th grade. There was a bad lice problem at school that year and I was having to poison her head every week. A teacher finally told us to dye her hair and no lice. Works like a charm. I think we even invented a few colors. Lots of fun.

I don't see a specifically Christian prohibition against this, since you addressed your question specifically Christians.
However, it would depend a lot on the shade of red, to me. Is it like bright fire engine red or a nice, natural looking red? 15 is pretty much time to start making your own decisions. If she can't practice that how, how's she going to fare when she's driving in a year or in college in 3?

Non-Christian with no kids and dyed red hair answering here. (Natural red hue, not crayon red, lol).
If I had a teenage daughter, I'd wonder why she would want her hair dyed in the first place. If she felt inadequate about herself, I'd try to build up her self esteem. That's what a mother is for, is it not? If she was a naturally creative soul who wants to express her artistic side in her hair, then it's not such a pressing issue. If she just wants to do it for girlish beauty fun, that too is not such a pressing issue.
I don't think there is one right or wrong answer, as it depends upon the young lady's reasons. If she is seeking self-esteem, I would say no, and try to build up her sense of self-worth. If it's for creativity and/or fun, then I'd say sure, why not? I don't see the harm in it.
I agree with what someone else said, pick your battles.

Yes, it is not a sin to dye your hair, just a fad.
However, I think dyeing your hair can be bad for your hair since people have sometimes lost their hair or developed health problems. I also think that it is best to be all you can be, and to be happy with what you are. Celebrate your own beauty!
The Biblical reference to "you cannot turn one hair white or black" is not specifically a rebuke against cosmetics. Matthew 5:36 This verse is about swearing an oath.

I don't think it says anywhere in the bible that you cannot dye your hair red. I would get it just temporary. On the grounds that she may or may not like it. But yeah I think I would. Unless it was like that attention getting red. If it's regular red hair fine. If it's that blood red as in very very dark unnatural red then no. Not that it's wrong just kind of well ugly. No offense intended.
Hope That Helps!!!

Yes, of course. There is nothing wrong with a Christian having red hair, and coloring one's hair is not a sin. Besides, it is a better way for her to express herself than wearing provocative clothing or getting body piercings. Let her have some freedom to make choices for herself and she will always be appreciative of that. God bless!
