Some tattoos hurt worse than others it all depends on who's giving it to you "are they heavy handed or not". It also depends on where you get it. Tattoos on fatty tissue hurt less than tattoos on a boney area.
There is nothing that they can give you so you dont feel the pain. You just kind of get used to it.

Yes tattoos hurt. The degree of pain depends on how sensitive you are, and how big and complicated the tattoo you want to get it. I have two, the first one I had done is a little smaller than the size of a CD and was done on my upper arm. After the guy working on it for about thirty minutes it really started to hurt. The part of your body you are getting on it may start to shake a little uncontrollably, this is a natural bodily reaction. The second I had done was small and while it didn't feel great wasn't nearly as bad. Some places can offer lidocaine spray similar to what places that do hair wazing offer that helps to numb the pain, but a lot of places simply don't or may not be allowed to so if you are thinking about getting one and are worried about the pain stop by a beauty supply store and you can pick up a can of lidocaine for about five dollars and spray it on the area you plan to get the tattoo a few minutes before the artist goes to work.

No. The pain is part of the process. You do not want to take any pain killers of any kind either before you get your tat (although go ahead and take them for the aftercare), because this will thin your blood and make you bleed more than usual. If you are not keen on pain, then you might want to reconsider the tat. It is not only painful while you get the tattoo, but most people do not realize that it is painful when you have to wash and care for it after wards, too. During, to me, it feels like a razor blade cutting the design out of your skin when the fine needle is used. As for fill work, this is more of a burn with the occasional stinging. Afterwards, the tat feels like a very bad sunburn, and when you wash it (my artist always has me wash mine for the first three days with anti-bacterial soap and then put A & D ointment on it, on the forth day I switch to Aveeno fragrance-free for a few weeks) stings as bad as alcohol on an open wound. Overall, if you can take this level of pain, it is more than worth it when a design is done beautifully, and has a lot of meaning to you.

the pain is part of the experience when you get a tattoo. it isnt as bad as you think. it's all mental. if you go in there thinking its gonna hurt, then it will. if you just take slow deep breaths and dont think about the pain to much then you'll do just fine. i have an extremely low pain tollerance, and i sat there for a little over 2 1/2 hours. but when it was over, i had a beautiful tattoo that i love. it was defanetly worth it and i plan on going back and getting my second one.

It all depends on where you have them done at. But I have a few tattoo's and none of mine have hurt. In fact I kinda like that feeling.
Dont worry about the pain it doesnt hurt and is definatley nothing to worry about. Hell if women can have babies then you can take a tattoo. Have you seen the needle for an epidural?

I sometimes take an Advil or Motrin just to cut down some of the skin irritation. I do this at the dentist's too.
But I like the feel and with the hum of the needle, I kinda bliss out.
When I remember my first time, I think the fear of it was the worst.
Really it doesn't hurt that much. A bikini wax is WAY WORSE.

Professional tattoo artists will not tattoo people who have taken medications/painkillers, injections, numbing creams or other to ease the pain of getting a tattoo. This is most often because they thin the blood making it dangerous to start tattooing.
If you don't want to deal with the pain, you are not ready for a tattoo or you don't want it that bad.

The ribs are one of the most painful places....but all tattoos hurt, no matter what. To me, i can only think of razor blades slicing into my skin........a friend of mine says it tickles. So, your not going to be able to know until you go get it. Congratulations and Good Luck!

none of mine hurt.. I did not even really feel much pain at all to be honest.. I do have an odd thing I do beforehand. I will drink a glass of apple juice to jump up my sugars. No real reason other than superstition:)

it does hurt.
well at least that is what my oldest brother said after he got one on his back.
he had to go three times cuz he couldn't handle the pain for more than 4 hours.
it took them about 10 hours to finish the whole tattoo.
it isn't really big either or anything.
i don't believe they give you anything for pain either.
well good luck if you go through with it.
