Doesn't seem anything to worry about. You said you only had him a few days. He doesn't know you or know what's going on. He's scared & that's more than likely why he's sitting at the bottom on the cage. Take your time with him & he'll open up to you and earn your trust. But if he's still sitting on the bottom of the cage for a while to come, take him to the vet because he could be getting sick.

HI! Only had him a couple days? I say don't worry. It's in new surroundings and still unsure of everything going on. I give your bird credit for even going on your finger. Have patience, he/she needs time to trust you. Re sitting on bottom of cage Hmmm put a perch lower in the cage for him, then see what happens. Try giving your parakeet a couple different choices of food. If no improvement re perching and eatting Then call who you bought him from. .

He needs time to adjust to his new home! Be patient. Give him a couple of weeks to get used to his surroundings. When he is playing with his toys and singing and eating well, then gently work on hand training every day. A good parakeet seed mix is good, but adding a pelleted food, like Zupreem, makes sure they have balanced nutrition.

don't listen to anyone else who answer this. i have had 13 parakeets. you should feed him something called millet. it is good for baby birds. and make sure to give him water also. it is common for babies to "run away". you should keep holding him for about an hour a day for 2 months. then he will get better.

You should take him to a vet, or to the place you got him. It is always good to give a new family member a checkup, just to make sure they aren't sick.
