E-tickets are now a very common ticket issuing process. Every e-ticket has a unique bar-code that can be scanned (once only) at the box-office to admit one person to the event. In that way it is identical to a regular printed ticket. It will have the name of the original purchaser printed right on it. You won't likely be asked to produce ID at the box-office to prove you're the person named on the ticket, so if someone has sold the same ticket several times over, only the FIRST person to have the ticket scanned will get in. You will be refused entry and have probably lost you money forever. Don't demand a refund from the venue because the won't even talk to you about it. NEVER buy an e-ticket from a scalper ... it may be legitimate, but likely isn't. Someone may have legitimately bought the ticket then sold it to a broker. That's one way brokers get their supply. If it's not your name on the ticket you may be refused entry to the event. You have to be *very* sure that the seller is a legitimate ticket agent, broker, or facility. If you are getting it directly from someone like Ticketmaster or Telecharge you should be ok. Those larger agencies usually own the tickets in the first place or actually have the original in-hand. If, however, you are getting it from Joes Ticket Agency or from someone on E-Bay, be very very careful. Good luck!

It depends on what the ticket is for. The website should explain the process before you by. I have purchased tickets on-line for an event that e-mailed a printable ticket that WAS the 'real' ticket. If you don't trust the site you are buying from, don't buy from that site.
