That all depends on the situation.
I would say it's an absolute NOT if you either work for the person, or the person works for you. In fact, many companies strickly forbid it. Now, if you are working together, be prepared for some harrassment or maybe some teasing. Its really important to remember to maintain professional while at work and not bring work things home or home things back to work.
The single biggest issue is to think about what happens if the two of you break up. Where usually you can never see the person again, that's probably not an option if you work together. Also, if things get really ugly, one or both of you may have to look for another job.
That all being said, if you work for a larger company and the two of you don't actually work closely, then it can go relatively smoothly. Just remember to keep it professional at work.
Good luck.

It depends on the work situation. If you work closely together then it's not that good of an idea. Because then sometimes favoritism is shown, and outside life gets mixed in with the work environment. It's very hard to keep things professional. And if you were to break up then things just start to get weird. If you work in the same building like a hospital but you work in different departments and you hardly see each other while at work then it's not that bad of an idea because even thought you may see each other a couple of times during the day, it still remains a professional environment at work. And if you were to break up then it would be easier to not see them at work.

I don't see why it's that bad, so long as the professional part of the relationship doesn't involve power differences.

bad idea. she might ask you to do something that goes against what your boss said. or she might get in the way of your productivity if she is cute. a relationship in the work place is just too much to think about.

Bad idea. If things go sour your always going to see this person. Plus if you see someone flirting with them you'll get jealous, its a natural reaction. I'd steer clear of it.

wel if she\he works in another floor or department away from you, sure, but if she\he just a desk away from you it would be just plain suicidal, work eventually will become a living hell

It's a bad idea because you are with them 40 hrs a week. If you look, talk or blink at someone they will find out and ask you about it. Please, don't do it because no matter what everybody will know your business.
