He was sitting on my lap purring and the second I glanced down at him, he kind of jumped up and put his paws on my chest and started rubbing his head/face against my face. It made me uncomfortable, but I was like whatever.

So i started rubbing the cat on its' back and it continued to purr. Then it suddenly turned its' head really fast and put its' teeth around my hand.

He didn't clamp down, but still...

I put him on the floor after that. He jumped back on the couch five minutes later & tried to nuzzle me in the face again, but I ignored him, so he left the room and got in the window sill.

That means the kitty wanted more attention...don't be afraid. Soon enough the kitty will get tired and walk away but kittys bite to get and keep your attention well not really bite kinda stick their teeth into your skin or their claws...and sometimes they meow really loud just to get your attention...so that's all it is.
Never neglect the kitty because you never reallyy know how sensitive they really are. Some may feel reall neglected/rejected til' where they will go into hiding for hours and some will just go to their spot and lay there wont really move.

Some cats don't like when you pet them too much. They get kind of overstimulated and their reaction is to swat or bite at the hand that pets them. Sometimes my cat will be enjoying me petting her, and then all of a sudden she freaks out and just bites me to let me know she had enough. It's not unusual for cats to do that.

A lot of times when you are petting a cat, and everything is going fine, and it suddenly nips at you, its because the cat got over-stimulated. All three of my cats will do it if I pet them for a long time. They don't really mean to do it, its just a reaction I think.

i had almost the exact experience a while back with my aunt's cat. cats can be very moody and one second they can be as sweet as sugar, the next second, they're hissing and biting. was the tail going crazy? like going back and forth really quickly? if a cat's tail goes crazy like that, they are not liking something or getting mad or annoyed. i don't know if i answered your question to your liking, but i hope i was able to help somehow!

It sounds like he wants to play, but his owner hasn't taught him not to play too rough. Biting can also be a dominance issue, he doesn't know you and wants to remain top banana. Don't let him near your face and I wouldn't let him in my lap if I couldn't discipline him.

If he'd been trying to hurt you, you'd know it. It sounds like he was trying to play, or entice you to play. That's the way he'd do it with another cat, so believe it or not, he liked you!

Seriously you might have aroused the cat, by stroking its back.
