It certainly can be a sign, but that alone doesn't mean you're depressed. If you are a little depressed and feeling like that, try to force yourself to go out with your friends sometimes still. Even though you may not feel like going out, once you do you'll probably have a good time. It helps shaking off those bad moods.

Yes, if this feeling has been there for at least a few weeks or so, but it certainly isnt enough in itself to make any kind of accurate diagnoses. There are a ridiculous number of sites online which have alot of information on this. Just put in 'depression' on yahoo or something. First thing id do is see a psychologist and they will refer you to a psychiatrist if you truley do have depression. Depression can often be a 'phase' that people will come out of, assuming they haven't always been depressed. However if it is a phase there is research that has shown you can be more likely to have another 'phase' in the future if you leave it untreated (i.e. medication, or even just talk therapy). This doesn't mean you will need medication for the rest of your life, it just helps you get through the depressive period and makes you less likely to spiral into another period of severe depression. It kind of helps keep your brain from re-wiring itself for an increased prevalency of depression.

Don't worry. That feeling happens to more people than you think. Most of us, sometimes feel like we just need a break. If this is your only symptom, I wouldn't worry too much about depression. It might be that your current friends haven't treated you like you would like to be treated or that you feel you cannot be open to them.
If you feel that it is something deeper than that, talk to a counselor or a therapist. Maybe you can let out some steam about issues on your mind or you could ask if they would recommend any additional help.

For you to question if you have depression is reason enough to just check it out with a therapist. Depression can snowball and have other effects on your life. Make some phone calls and see how much they charge for a visit long enough to see if you are clinically depressed. If so, there are Lots of meds to help you get back to your old self.
