A RSVP is always a good idea. If your friends are going to come they will send the card back. Its a respectful thing to do.

General RSVP do not require a separate card only RSVP at the bottom of the invite along with the phone number to whom the responses are to go to. Reply cards are reserved for more formal gatherings such as a wedding reception. Your invitation should reflect the beach theme and note that it's a sleepover, then your RSVP line.

Personally I would just leave a phone number and have people call me and RSVP, but you could go either way. You could also have people send you an email. I just figure that the easier you make it for people to RSVP the more likely people will actually do it. Hope you have a wonderful birthday bash and goodluck.

Yes, it's perfectly fine. However, you could just include a card or slip of paper inside the invitation saying: RSVP by August 16, 2007 or whenever, and include the number. This will help you figure out who's coming and how much food to provide, etc.

I think the rsvp would fine. Not sure if other 14 yr olds are as mature and they might not remember to mail it back. A phone call my be easier or possibly an email.
Better yet, try evite.com to send the invitation to the party and track all the responses...that way everyone could see what everybody else was doing

Yes, an RSVP would be a good idea, especially because your birthday party will be pretty elaborate. Just ask your friends to send the RSVP back to you by ___date, please. If a close friend can't handle that I'm sure they'll just call you anyway, so expect a few of those!
And Happy Birthday...have fun!

I think it is ok to have a RSVP card for any kind of party, this way you will know how many people to plan for. It is especially important when planning a menu.

Usually its just a phone number but are you asking them to return a card to you? So where would they give it to you? Like drop it in your mailbox or mail it to you? If its to mail back then put a stamp on it and fill it all out first then they just have to drop it in the mail box. Otherwise, how can they get it back to you.
With the cards, you will have a record of people. You could even ask for their email address on the card, that way you can dial them up on facebook for the pics after
