The groomsmen are always dressed differently from the groom at every wedding I've ever been to. Usually the groom wear a white tie and vest while the the other men wear a black, blue, silver etc vest with black or colored tie.

Short answer: Absolutely.
Although tradition suggests that there should be complete uniformity amongst the bridesmaids and on the male side, amongst the groom and groomsmen, what you choose for your wedding should be based solely on what you think is visually appealing and comfortable.
Trends are in fact moving away from carbon copy tuxes and identical dresses. Your idea more closely mirrors the bridesmaid-to-bride image with the groom differentiating himself visually from the pack. The traditional way of doing things puts the focus on the bride instead of on the couple.
Something to consider, though: when you look at the complete picture (bridesmaids, bride, groom, and groomsmen) does anything totally clash? Do you care? There is generally an attempt made to complement the bridesmaid dressed when choosing the groomsmen attire for this reason.
Cheers.

Your wedding your way.
For my wedding my husband wore black with white and all the groomsmen wore grey. It is up to you.
Usually you try to match the colors of the cumberbund of the groomsmen to the ladies they will be paired with.
Most of us only want to get married once and forever so have fun and do things the way you want to.
I have even attended a wedding wear all the groomsmen showed up wearing nooses around their necks... Needless to say it was funny as all get out and not what the bride had planned. My friend laughed so hard when she saw them she forgot to be nervous. Yes they kept them on for the entire ceremony.

This is your wedding. Do it how you want to! But, yes it is very normal and acceptable for the groom and his groomsmen to wear different colored suits.

The groomsmen can wear a different color as long as it complements the groom's color.

it's your wedding, whatever you and your groom want is "what you can get away with".
Personal opinion - I like it when the groom is wearing an outfit just a little bit different than the groomsmen.

You may do this if you choose, but be sure to match the color of your gown to the color of the groom's suit unless you want one of your outfits to look dingy...or unless you're wearing a color other than a shade of white/ivory.

When I got married, my husband (the groom) had wore a darker colored blue then the rest of the group (best man...).
I dont think it's weird... it's basically up to you, because its your wedding and your day!
Congrats!!

That's fine. Maybe you could tie in the colours with the boutonnieres.
