The tight grouping of a three round burst is not an accident - it's training. The shooter no doubt meant to fire. The accident was in not being sure of who he was shooting at. It is unfortunate, but in war it happens.

Depends on the circumstances leading to the incident. Breaking and entering, robbery, etc. Would lead me to want to congratulate the person who did it. Gang related, retaliation, stupidity, etc, I think the person that pulled the trigger should also be shot.

If you mistook the person you were shooting as a robber and he was in fact a friend and it was the middle of the night, then I might be inclined to say it could be an accident.

If it was the middle of the day and you could see his face and you fired off three rounds, then I would be inclined to say no.

It would take Tom Barringer and an m16 with a scope set on 3 round burst in the prone supported position without any stress or fear of getting shot. Anyone else, their 3 round burst would be spread shoulder to shoulder unless they were close enough to read his name tag.

It depends on the distance and type of gun. At close range, with a gun set to 3 round burst, it's possible.

Most likely no, but if it was an automatic with 3 round burst, and the person had good aim....

No, that's what we like to call in military circles a good shot. Or in civilian terms, execution style.

That probably depends on the perspective. It's pretty rare that the victim would intentionally allow that to happen...
