The ages make a lot of difference here.

First, the fact that your son is 18 and obviously had sex with a 16 year old is enough of an issue. The pregnancy itself in some states will make her emancipated, which means her parents no longer have control over her. Since they have no control over her, I doubt seriously if they will be able to get involved in teh custody battle.

Grandparent rights will also vary from state to state, since both parents are obviously alive and well, the battle will be between them. In so much as his ability to walk out the door with the child? Only an attorney, specializing in family law, in your state will be able to answer that.

They still have rights over her, unless they get married. But it's a legitimate concern. If they can prove that your son and their daughter can't handle a baby, they stand a good chance of being awarded custody.
