I don't even think the water needs to be "holy water." I don't read that Jesus blessed the water, then was baptized. He was just baptized. When we are baptized, it is a public demonstration of an inward change. We show to the world that the old man is dead, and buried in the water. And now we are new creations in Christ. But I don't think that we will go to hell if we aren't baptized. I too feel that we must be baptized by the blood. God Bless.

Some churches will say that you need to be baptized with Holy Water. Some will say that baptisim is an abstract thing that happens in the realm of the soul through prayer or speaking in tongues. Some will say that baptism must be an act of being fully submerged in the water. Baptism is a sign of cleansing of the soul. Whatever your congregation requires you to do, do it for doctrinal purposes. However, the key thing is that you actively do your best to keep your soul clean of sin. If you don't agree with your church's doctrine, maybe you could look into finding a church that you agree with.

Good luck and God Bless.

It's not the water or the baptizer. It's the baptizee. It's the sacrifice the one who is being baptized makes. The water is only a symbol for the blood (of course) but it is necessary to contact the blood. There is no other way that I've read about in the Bible. Since we need the blood of Christ to wash away our sin, I would assume it's necessary to be baptized. Jesus never seemed to favor doing 'religious' acts to show we are His followers. It leads me to believe we are not baptized to show we are Christians but that the purpose is for salvation.

One of the most nagging questions in Christianity is whether or not baptism is necessary for salvation. The answer is a simple, "No." But you might ask, "If the answer is no, then why are there verses that say things like ‘. . .baptism that now saves you . . . ‘ (1 Pet. 3:21, NIV) and ‘ . . . Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins . . ." (Acts 2:38, NIV)? This is an honest question and it needs a competent answer. But, before I tackle this I need to lay a foundation of proper theology, then I'll address some of those verses that are commonly used to support the idea that baptism is necessary for salvation.

It isn't the water, but "the answer of a good conscience towards God". It's an act of obedience.
You might even say that the GIFT is free, but you must sign the receipt, so to speak.
As for what you do; you go down into the water (pool, lake, etc.), you're immersed, which is a symbol of burial, and come up, which is a symbol of Resurrection.

Yes, water baptism is important as first of all Jesus said to His followers to do so (He was himself baptized), and secondly it is our outward demonstration of our faith, and finally tradition and scriptures attest to it. For if any of us say we have faith, yet our lives prove otherwise, won't we be like the chaff that should end up in fire?

However, baptism should be only once a person believes, not before. For when Jesus was baptized, He received the Holy Ghost and He gives the same to His followers who have true faith in Him.

God bless,
Andrew

You need to have the water baptism in order for it to be valid. Contact a Catholic priest. He will answer your questions. A person who is an adult will need to enrol in RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - to learn about the Catholic religion. Baptism is at the Easter Vigil, where the candidate is welcomed into the Church. That is how the Catholic religion baptizes adults. The ceremony is similar for infants in that the parents take a few short classes.
I am not familiar with what other religions do.

A water baptism is an outward show of your repentance for the remission of sins. (Mark 1:4, et al,) It is symbolic of the death and resurrection of Christ. By itself, it is insufficient. (Acts 18:25-26) The water baptism is necessary insofar as it shows the rest of the community that you have, in fact, accepted Jesus. But it is only one step of many.

What happens during the baptism is dependent on which denomination you are in. It ranges from having holy water sprinkled on your forehead to full-body immersion for a period of time. I believe that any form is valid as it is the spirit of the sacrament that is important, not the practice itself. (Just my own opinion, there.) Whichever form it takes, you will be required to affirm, in front of the congregation, that you "renounce the devil and all his works, the vain pomp and glory of the world, with all covetous desire of the same, and the sinful desires of the flesh, so that thou wilt not follow, nor be led by them." (Book of Common Prayer, 1928 ed, Rite of Holy Baptism)

Good luck in your spiritual journey, and God be with you.

I don't think you have to literally be baptized in water to be saved. However, it is a sign that you are committing yourself to following God. If you can be baptized, do it. I don't think it matters how. But baptism never saved anyone. It is what happens before the baptism that counts.

Baptism is merely a showing of your faith. You are publicly displaying your faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism, however, is not necessary to your salvation.

example) Jesus told the theif on the cross that he would be with him in paradise. He didn't need baptis, just faith.

Faith is what saves you. But you are supposed to be baptised if you have the resources.

sincerly, katie. hope this helped
