Jesus did help Peter get things in perspective but I think the whole point is that Jesus was willing to forgive regardless of what happened. That's how He is toward us.
I'm not educated enough on the blasphemy part. If I commit blasphemy then come to know Jesus, I tend to believe His blood still washes away my sin. I think it may have something to do with a heart of blasphemy instead of an incident of blasphemy. Again, I'm just not sure.

Peter wasn't saved and some say that's why Jesus already knew what Peter was going to do. If Peter wasn't a sinner he wouldn't have needed Jesus. But this same Peter preached the Apostolic doctrine the moment He received the Holy Ghost. This same Peter history says was crucified upside down because he didn't feel worthy to die like Jesus did. That is the saving power of Christ.

If that was unforgivable then we would all be in trouble. We have all denied Christ at one time or another, each time we sinned. By sinning we add more wounds to His Body. He took on the sins of all for all time, and by sinning I too had a part in every wound He suffered. But, I know He forgives me, as He forgave Peter.
To "st_louis_cardsfan": You are wrong. Peter knew who Jesus was before the crucifixion: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God" (Matt 16).

Jesus comforted Peter afterward.
Of course, Jesus also briefly called Peter Satan that one time when Peter tried to talk Jesus out of going to the cross.

Jesus talked to Peter in a loving way and forgave him. He even made him breakfast. Did you know that a camp fire is mentioned only two times in the N.T. Once when Peter denied Christ and once when Christ forgave Peter.

Jesus comforted Peter He encouraged him to continue in the work that he had for him. It goes to show you the love that He has for us it is called Agape [unconditional love]. If he commited blasphamy he wouldn't have repented & continue to follow Jesus. It's funny how all those that accept Jesus as Lord & savior feel like we were the worst failures, but like Jesus said those that are forgiven much will love much.

What Bible do you read? Christ prophecied to Peter that which he would do, and Peter did it. Christ was already in custody of the Romans when it occured and on His way to be scourged and crucified. He also forgave Peter before it even happened. Peter was the rock upon which Christ chose to build His church.

Peter wept bitterly, meaning he repented. I don't remember Jesus really chewing out his followers. He usually said sin no more.

The 12 disciples didn't even realize who Jesus really was and what His true purpose on earth was until he arose from the grave. Think about that one.
