But you see, Rome isn't "dead" yet. It simply transferred its power to the Holy Roman Empire from the Pagan Roman Empire. It's still alive and well; the Pope currently holds the place of Caesar. They are still very much in control of the governments of the world.
The same prophecy said that the 4th kingdom (Rome) would break up into 10 pieces (Visigoths, Allemani, Franks, Saxons, Suevi, Burgundians, Ostrogoths, Veruli, Vandals, etc.) These tribes became modern Europe, and they were ruled by kings who were in turn ruled by Rome. Prophecy tells us that in 1798, the beast would suffer a "deadly wound" that would later be healed. In 1798, Napoleon's General Berthier captured the Pope. Rome was without a Pope and ruled by Cardinals for about 100 years. A new Pope was finally appointed in the late 1800's, and there has been a Pope now during all the 20th century. The Popes of the last half-century have become very powerful and influential with all the world's leaders, regardless of their religious beliefs (or lack thereof). Just look at how many heads of state were at the last Pope's funeral! (And our presidents were right there in front.) I believe that the "image to the beast" is the United States of America. They will force the world to obey the Pope's rulings at some time in the future. "The image to the beast" is also described as a country that rises up out of a relatively unpopulated area, starts out as a Christian country with civil and religious liberty, but eventually begins to speak like a dragon (Satan). Sounds like the U.S. to me.

Daniel is only part of the story. You have to go to Revelation to find the end.
In Revelation, John is told about a beast with seven heads. This beast represents all the kingdoms that had persecuted the Israelis.
1. Egypt - served in slavery.
2. Assyria - constantly warred with Israel.
3. Babylon - seige by Nebuchadnezzer.
4. Medes and Persians - conquored Babylon.
5. Greece - conquored the Persians.
6. Romans - conquored the weakened Greco empire.
In Revelations it says that the Roman empire will be the empire that is restored, but one that came before it would be.
I suspect that we are talking about the Selucid Empire since Daniel refers to the King of the North in the last days.
The Selucid Empire was the King of the North.

The image in Daniel 2:41 There was a nation after Rome.
It was protrayed as iron crushing and grinding everything.
It was the feet of the image.
Partly of molded clay and partly of iron.
the kingdom will itself prove to be divided. Isn't the duel world power of today between US and the UK?
Then another interesting fact. They are not sticking together and they are mixed with the off spring of mankind.
The kingdom is partly fragile and partly like iron strong.
Then Daniel 2:44 says in the days of those kings god will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin.
So it does show another kingdom after Rome and look at history, who won the war who was the leader of the world after Rome? A duel world power between UK and US

You have a better than normal understanding. Daniel prophesied that four kingdoms of man would rise and fall before Jesus Christ came to save the world. Rome was the last of the four and both Jesus and the church were born during the Roman Empire!

Yes, the last empire will be a
"revised 'Roman' empire" - the EU looks
like it is leading well down that road!
The world is begining to get desparate
for peace and I believe the one who will be
the antichrist will be the one that
"solves" the problem astoundingly,
but it won't last - the antichirst will
turn on his promises!
