I want to run an air conditioner off of a 12 volt battery. It can be the smallest ac unit I can find, how long will a fully charged marine battery sustain a load like that?

This isn't going to work very well or very long.
Look at the ampere-hours rating of the battery.
Then look at the power draw of the AC unit.
Then there's the issue of converting 12VDC to 110VAC.
What you should look for is a solid-state cooler.
I think the brand name was Koolatron.
They were designed to run in a car or boat.

first you have to find an ac unit with a 12volt motor!
alternatively, you could purchase an inverter that provides mains power from a battery
the load will be huge to the point of impractical i doubt you will get more than 2-3 hrs off the battery

Some golf carts have a/c that runs off a 12 volt battery system---check with some local golf courses.

Depending on how many amps is drawn by whatever 12volt unit you find will dictate how long the battery will last,Under the ''best'' amp draw conditions I would say it will last 2-4 hours.
