By the time you get them to the ballpark they'll be cold again, so there isn't much to gain by trying to soften them up at home.

One or 2 minutes (depending on the microwave oven power rating) is more than enough to get them heated up, nicely.

If your balls are soft, no amount of microwaving will turn them hard. Sometimes, you just have to play with what god gave you.

If you're trying to dry them out, short one minute maximum bursts with drying time in between.
