I will be asking my professors for a letter of recommendation, just wanted to know what I should do when asking and also after I get it. Thanks in advance. :)

I had to do this a while ago but here goes.First ,make sure your on good terms with them academically and personally. This is why they tell you to integrate into college life and courses. Second, make an appointment. Third ,ask them for it and tell them why you need it. Third ,allow them enough time to write it (they need time to recall you and your peformance and your personality and bring it forth in that letter).Fourth, thank them. Fifth, do not let them down or do anything bad (remember these people put their reputation on the line for you). Good luck. Also when you get into the office dont get right down to business unless they hint for you to do so...shoot the breeze with them a little. Much of this worlds business is done with a lot of friendly conversation...it greases the wheels .

Actually, make sure that you are on time after you schedule a meeting with him/her. Just ask for a Letter of Recommendation and state that it would be greatly appreciated. Thank them for all the help and assistance that they have given you in the past.

* Give them a decent amount of time to write the letters.
* Give them copies of your résumé.
* If you are applying for something specific, give them copies of the job/scholarship description.
* If the letters have to be mailed somewhere and not given to you, give them stamped addressed envelopes.

Say thank you!

Just ask and after you receive it, send a thank you card to your professor.
