I did a candy table/bar and it was a HUGE hit. I just got tons of different candy in my wedding colors and got a bunch of cute one dollar vases from Big Lots and Hobby Lobby and filled them with the candy. We tiered all the vases on a black table cloth (so they would be different heights) and sprinkled the table with sugar and a few tea lights. Then I had cute clear bags so the guests could make a candy bag and take it with them. It was very cute and the guests (young AND old) loved it. This is also very very inexpensive and original!!
I've also been to a wedding where they did personalized CD's of the couples favorite love songs and that was very cute. I've also seen small personalized bottles of champagne. Also cute. (But very expensive.)
Good luck!!!

If you've just begun, wait. You may change the colors or theme, the date, etc several times before it is finalized. Plus the cost. You may end up going over budget and decide not to do favors.
Do something useful. Edible favors are great--personalized M&Ms, Hershey's hugs and kisses, jordan almonds. Pens are great. Candles are great--I put a sticker with our picture and date on jar candles that were a big hit. Personalized can koozies, love magnets. Nothing is really unique b/c everything has been used before unless it has a theme. If your wedding has a renaissance flare, tropical, cinderella, etc. In fact the only unique favor I think I've ever gotten was handmade soap and the recipe of the cake (it was the brides favorite recipe)
What I hate? Personalized picture frames, sand buckets with salt taffy (if a beach wedding), and the lil matchbooks that have paper in it instead. No one wants something permanent that is either a picture of the 2 of you or just has your wedding date. You'll end up with tons left over.
My suggestion is to pick something you really like so that if you end up with 50 leftovers, you'll be able to use them in your home.

BEWARE- BEWARE- I thought the personalized M & M’s would be a great touch. The website is fantastic- you get to pick out the colors- pick out what it will say and view it in an instant. I was so excited! Then I waited for over 5 weeks- they came and looked like trash. They did such a great job with the packaging- so it must be how they were manufactured- the pieces were broken- the printing was horrible. There was no way I could give those to my guests- they were embarrassing! I called the 800 number and they said they’d send a replacement, but the replacement was like another order so I had to give my credit card info again. It took about 3 weeks for them to credit my first order. Unbelievably, the replacement (2 weeks later) was just as horrible as the original. My wedding was in December, so maybe they’re gotten better since then- (I see tv commercials now) but I was so disappointed. I had other favors I’d purchased online and I was very happy with those- chocolates in personalized favor boxes.

A couple of weddings I went to really had some great favors. One was a small bag chocolate covered coffee beans tied with a ribbon with a little coffee scoop attached, they had met at a coffee shop. Another was mini chinese food boxes (candy inside) because on their first date they ate at a chinese restuarant. I love these kind of favors it is like they are sharing a special memory. There could be so many times that mementos/favors could symbolize:
A first kiss - Was it on the beach? Give chocolate seashells
A first date - A Movie? Mini Mike & Ikes with printed tickets attached with your names/the date/and your picture
The place you met - Walking your dogs? Small dog bone tags with your names and the date
Where he/she proposed - While camping under the stars? Trail mix in a cute bag tied with charms, a fish and stars.
Be creative! I love it when it seems completely out of theme because then it truly has a spotlight. People start asking, "What is this?" and the story goes around. People love being let in on the secret!
Have fun and enjoy every minute!

Unique may not be all it is cracked up to be... My cousin had shot glasses at her wedding but many of the people there don't drink so the favor was really a pointless dust collector or garbage dump filler depending on the person.
I like favors you can eat and don't feel the need to keep but have a label I can put with the pictures I took...
Kisses, Jordan almonds, mints, m&m
In various containers like boxes with a cute note attached or as confetti on the tables
Strawberries dipped to look like they are wearing tuxidos is a nice place decoration but you have to have talented friends with LOTS of time.
Book marks can be home made with a color printer, a nice photo of the couple, and eligant phrase/poem. I recomend card stock for paper and lamination when completed. That is what I did for my wedding. Only seen it one other time.
Best of luck... you have many things to decide but you have already picked the most important one, THE GROOM!!!

I think sachets bags are a great idea and most definitely will be used. You can purchase potpourri in different scents and buy some organza bags or tulle & ribbon to match your wedding colors. You can attach a little card to each one with sayings such as "love is the spice of life" for cinnamon, "love is in bloom" for floral. You can even get scents that would work for men as well. I'm also going to buy colored cellophane and wrap choc. covered strawberries for each guest. They are easy to make yourself too. If you don't like the idea of the strawberries, you could just put hershey's kisses or miniatures in the bags or tulle & ribbon. Hope this helps.

Guests always love edible favors. I will be giving out customized m&ms in my wedding colors. There are wedding cake shaped cookies with you and your fiances intials on it, candy, or just have a candy buffet where they can pick out what they want and put it in a take out box that you can get now in so many different colors, frames where you can also use as favors and table seating.

So far, most of the ideas posted aren't very unique...I think that's often the problem with wedding favors, though, they're often fairly common.
The most unique favor I have seen was at the wedding of a coworker. She and her husband are both very outdoorsy, and had the wedding at Yosemite. The theme of the wedding was forest, and each guest was given a redwood sapling to plant at home.

I attended a wedding and they gave out crystals with "floating" writing in them that said the groom and brides name and the date of the wedding. And another wedding gave out bath fizzy's!
