I'm 13...I have tried contact lenses, but have had to stop because in the middle of the day they get blurry and I can't see through them at all. If I move them around back where they're supposed to be then I can see again. I have heard that there's a special lens made for astigmatism. (I have astigmatism.) Has anybody tried these and do they work?

Sounds like the lenses don't fit your eye properly - they are probably slipping, to cause the blurring, as you say that when you shift them back you can see again. You may have to try a few before you find a good fit, just tell your optician about the problems you are having and he should test you out on a few. I had to try about 6 different types of lenses and only ended up with a really rare type at the end of it! But yes, astigmatism means you have to have 'toric' lenses, specially designed for the shape of your eye, or as has happened here, they will move in your eye.

Some people are OK with lenses meant for astigmatism, others are not. The only way you'll know is to try a pair and see how it goes. Your eye doctor should be able to get you a pair. There are several different brands/types. They are different so you may need to try a couple of types. but don;t be surprised if it doesn't work out. Good luck.

Like everyone else here has mentioned, toric lenses are made for those of us with astigmatism. I've been using them for about a year and they work really well. Sometimes they'll rotate while you're wearing them, but you can just close your eyes and roll them around for a second or two and that usually rotates the lenses to their proper position.

Hi, if you have astigmatism you have to use an special contact for it called " toric lense" ,that corrects the astigmatism.
I m using torics lenses without problems for a long time without problems.
But why you can't see good?. Are you cleaning and removing proteins of your contacts properly? . If you don't you will see badly and you'll damage your lenses.
Good luck!!

Yeah try em out!

I have Astigmatism too! But only on my right eye and I wear a Toric Lense on for my right and a normal for my left eye!

Contact Lenses get time to get used too so dont be desperate at the beginning! With the time it will get better!

It took me a year to get used to them!

Toric lenses for Astigmatism work very well. Accuvue Advanced for Astigmatism are excellent. You need some wetting drops for the middle of the day. Sounds like they are drying out.

Save your money and get Lasik surgery. I've had it, and I had near-sightedness and astigmatism. The price has gone down significantly since I had it done three years ago.
