In my opinion, your stepdad is wrong about the Bible. Both the Old and New Testament condemn the homosexual act. And if your stepdad's argument about the Bible is correct then why would he listen to anything in the Bible. If these men who wrote the Bible could be wrong about that, how can we trust anything they say?
The simple truth for me is that the Bible does condemn the homosexual act. I also believe that the Bible is the word of God through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. However, most importantly, I also believe that God loves the homosexual person.

I don't know how many times this has been asked. We come up with the same things which clearly state that homosexuality is wrong and yet no one ever listens.
The Bible verses also listed here easily talk about it. I'm also going to add this. Think about what our world would be if people treated sex as the Bible states that it should be. If there was no homosexuality, the spread of STDs would decrease. Keep sex to marriage and you can probably nearly eliminate STDs. You'll have more happy marriages, much fewer divorces, and a happier world. All I've seen free choice provide is a world that becomes worse and worse each day. Maybe it would be a good thing if we never were given free will. All we've done with it is create more and more evil.
(Also, don't start talking about homosexuality being "genetic". I don't believe that God would create anyone with homosexual tendencies. Even if something like that is present in people, it doesn't mean you have to act on it. Genetics is not destiny. Anyone who claims that is just looking for an excuse for their own actions so they don't have to claim responsibility for those actions.)

Mmm. Your Dad seems to have alot of varying opinions on things. Unfortunately, that's the major problem with people is their opinions rather what the Bible truthfully says. 1 Corinthians 6:9 states that "men who lie with men" will not inherit God's kingdom. Since the kingdom is what most strive for, then not entering it would be a major deal. You could also look at the example of Sodom & Gormorrah. They were destroyed because of the lifestyle they lived (Genesis chapter 19). If you examine what the word sin really means, its "missing the mark of perfection." By that definition, there have only been 3 people on the Earth that were ever not sinning. I guess you would have to study the Bible to really understand your question. I hope that was mature and clear.

BUT:
That same part of the bible also says it's a sin to shave your beard or cut your hair, and that handicapped people can't get into heaven!
Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. -- Lev.19:27
They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.--Lev.21:5
For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous.--Lev.21:18
You can't just pick & choose which bits of the bible are "truth", either it's ALL truth or it's not!

Your stepdad sounds like a smart man.
Aren't we all sinners? Aren't we born sinners? So, how is being gay any worse of a sin? People don't follow the bible strictly anymore because a lot of things just don't apply anymore.
Like in Leviticus, where is says man shall not lie with man, it says that you can stone a child to death if he/she curses his/hers parents. It also says that a women on her period is unclean and must stay on the outskirts of the city. Obviously, we do not still do those things. So why is it that we don't follow those scriptures, but still insist that being gay is an abomination?

Your stepdad is a smart man. It never comes right out and states explicitely that its a sin to be gay. People interpret it that way to advance their own agendas. Gay is not wrong. Its obviously natural for some people. I like your stepdad.

Jesus taught of the destruction (Luke 17:29) and judgment (Matthew 11:24) of Sodom and Gomorrah. Your step dad must be in denial if he cannot even know it teaches that is a sin in the Gospels!
