There can be no real meaning without real purpose and there can be no real purpose without a Creator. Here is what the atheist philosopher Bertram Russell has to say about it:

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

What most people speak of is not real meaning but the feeling (or illusion) of meaning. Here is how that works:

>We do something that we consider praiseworthy, e.g. volunteer at a nursing home.
>Next, give yourself praise and imagine others giving you praise.
>Your mind will automatically connect praise with self worth and self worth with purpose and you will begin to think that volunteering at a nursing home is what you were put on earth to do.

Presto, the illusion of a purposeful life.

The created international and all its reward continues to be existence with God even nevertheless one isn't a believer in God. while God's presence is punctiliously withdrawn, it extremely is Hell. Hell in simple terms exists theoretically. whilst the possiblity exists, in simple terms a raving lunatic might honestly have self assurance that any one is the two "there" or this way of state exists. All adult men are Christ's, some by using understanding Him, the rest not yet. he's the Savior, not of a few and the rest not. for a fashion is He Savior and Lord, if not the Savior and Lord of all?— St. Clement of Alexandria we are in a position to set no limits to the enterprise of the Redeemer to redeem, to rescue, to self-discipline in his artwork, and so will he proceed to function after this existence. – St. Clement of Alexandria For that's requisite that evil could some day be thoroughly and actual bumped off out of the circle of being. -- St. Gregory of Nyssa interior the top and consummation of the Universe all are to be restored into their unique harmonious state, and all of us would be made one physique and be united as quickly as extra right into a suited guy and the prayer of our Savior would be fulfilled that one and all could be one. --St. Jerome There! i did not quote scripture to you. I quoted super Orthodox and Catholic theologians and Saints. And despite while you're alive or ineffective, you do not ascertain God's presence or absence as a results of using your denial of it. It's difficult to not mix religion into "the meaning of life". For many who understand religion, religion IS life to them. Some try to get answers and avoid religion altogether, and I think it's because they hate all the history of some religions, created by people who claim to be of that religion (like all of the wars, for example). But as for me I believe that there is, and always has been, a great difference between, for example, one who calls himself a Christian, and one who is actually a follower of Christ and his teachings as reflected through his actions.

So to answer your question, life, apart from religion, is meaningless (according to how I define religion). If you believe in evolution though, then we are all here by chance, and everything valued (like human life) is only valued because of a "societal" or "cultural" construction. So there is no meaning if we came here by chance.

If you believe there is a god, then try reading his word to discern the meaning (Try reading the book of Acts as it has a verse that sums up the reason why God created man). And why do I personally believe in the Bible? Because first I believe in God, and thus his competency to create this world, and thus his competency to put together a book of truth to be read throughout generations.

I hope I did help and that this answer wasn't to much.
Thanks

My woman comes home soon, and will bring my youngest with her. I will hug and kiss her, and hug the boy. I will cook dinner, fresh corn and Chicken Marsala. All of my little family will sit and laugh and eat together.

Later I will spend some time alone with my love. We will walk, or sit and talk about cabbages and kings, then maybe make love at the day's end.

That's for each person to decide. What gives meaning to one's life varies among people. For me it is to live a life filled with adventure, love and good companionship, and live according to the ethics of honesty, charity and courage.
