I htought imperial only made oil based products. ie;margarine. butter is richer and less oily so I see no problem but it may also depend on what you are making.

Imperial is a brand name for margerine.
You can sub out one for the other but just remember that margerine has more water in it than butter does. So if you are using margerine in a recipe that calls for butter subtract about 1-3 teaspoons liquid per cup of margerine you use. (So If I used one stick of margerine or imperial I would subtract 1 teaspoon of milk or water or whatever liquid from the amount called for in the recipe). If you are subbing butter for margerine then I would do the opposite and add liquid to make up for the lost water. Also, if you are making frosting with margerine instead of butter, it will be more yellow (because of the coloring in margerine) and you will need to add more powdered sugar to your recipe.

You can use butter when the recipe calls for margerine. Butter is better because it does not have all the additives that margerine has.

Um...Imperial is a brand of margarine.
You should check the package.
It depends on what you are making---in a cookie or cake, the texture of it will be different, but they can usually be substituted.
Most recipes will have "No Substitutions" listed in the recipe if they aren't allowed.
