I see your point and I feel your frustration.

For those who don't know about the visa lottery here is the link from the US Department of State.

The problem is that some people criticize without being documented. As per I say, they put their feelings instead of knowledge. Yes, I heard about visa lottery before.
We want illegal immigrants to learn english, but when they are here they are working so many hours that they don't have the time, some people don't have any idea of injustices that have been commited against them and bad treatment. They only criticize.

Nobody is going to fault a LEGAL immigrant who is TRYING to learn the language. What annoys us are the ILLEGALS and others who REFUSE, thinking that we owe them a living.

We should not have to accommodate them. Opportunities and advancement come to those who work for them.

I'm sure your friend from Costa Rica will do fine here. We support those who play by the rules.

Legal people do or should know English.

Anti-illegals don't want illegals here at all but when they demand illegals learn English, are they sort of saying its ok that they are here then?

Why are you pointing out one exception - lottery winner?

Nobody learns 2nd language in a matter of days? -
I know of immigrants who don't learn 2 words of English and they've been here for decades - some never learn any their whole life here.
They don't have to - we've accommodated them!

Then that is a problem with the Visa lottery. Requirement should be that the individual must know English!!!!!

This whole country is conflicted on the issue. We say we don't want them here, then we profit from selling them new cell phones, new houses and new cars.

We say they should speak English, but then we say their kids shouldn't be in our schools.

As far as this "Visa lottery" you're talking about, I've never heard of such a thing and I doubt it exists.

Here's an idea, learn it before you come here. Before my father went to work in Germany (on a base as a contractor) he learned to speak German at least well enough so he could communicate.
