Hey there. Select Cell B1 - Freeze Panes. Save your workbook.
Now you have what you are after, and when you reopen the workbook, the cells will still be frozen for you.
Hope this sorts you out.

What you want to do is SPLIT the window. This is easy to do but hard to describe since the object you want to drag onto your screen is very small and not obvious.

1. Make sure you can see the column on the left that you want to remain visible at all times.

2. Look in the very bottom right side of the window where the two scroll bars meet. Each has an arrow button.

The horizontal scroll bar has an arrow pointing to the right, and just past it is a very small bar that is white with a black edge.

This is the split window bar. When you put your mouse over it, you will see a double headed arrow.

3. Click on it and hold the mouse button down while you DRAG the split bar into your worksheet. You will see a grey bar follow your mouse to each column divider. Drag this split to the RIGHT edge of the column you want to remain visible. Then let go of the mouse button.

The split line is a fat light grey line.

Done.

Now the right part of the window will scroll with your scroll bars and the column on the left will not move. You can drag the split to a new place anytime.

To remove the split, go to Window menu -> Remove Split

If you choose to use FREEZE panes, that will also work, but you need to SELECT THE COLUMN to the right of the column you want frozen, then go to Window Menu -> Freeze Panes and click. The freeze line is a thin black line.

Both ways work although the resulting windows are a bit different.

You do want to use "freeze panes" but only select one cell, not a column or row. Freeze panes freezes everything to the left and above the cell you select. For example, if you select cell B1, then select window, freeze panes, column A will be "frozen". The when you scroll within the sheet, column A will always be visible. If you select B2, then column A and row 1 will be frozen so you can scroll right or down the page.

When you use Freeze Panes, you don't highlight the column or row you want to freeze, you highlite the column to the right, or the row beneath the one you want to freeze.
