Hello, I hate to break it to you and any others who believe a single exercise will get rid of body fat from specific locations in the body, but the truth is that this "spot reduction" belief is a myth.
What i mean is body fat is distributed evenly (well for the most part) throughout your body. So, by exercising you WILL lose fat gradually, but the effects will not be localized to just particular parts of your body.
When people refer to exercises targeting specific body parts, this really is talking about building the muscles in that area (e.g. leg exercises for leg muscles, back exercises for back muscles, etc.).
So to lose the fat that is overlying the muscle, taking part in just about any exercise will do the job; ranging from running to biking, swimming, etc. as long as the duration and intensity is high enough.
The ultimate key to weight loss is a fairly simple...
INTAKE minus OUTPUT = BALANCE
What this means is the amount of calories (through food) consumed, subtracted by energy expenditure (daily physical activity), will give you your overall balance.
However, don't take this the wrong way...many people will try to overemphasize reducing the "intake" component of the formula, thinking it will be an easy solution.
However, what happens when you deprive your body of food and nutrients is it goes into a state of starvation...and when you do eat (no matter how little), the body will "hold on" to it more by storing the food molecules into fat stores. This premise relates back to the evolution of man, when cavemen back in the day would go for extended periods with minimal food intake, and then gorge down when there would be a big catch. What the body does here is ensure that it will have enough energy to maintain living because it doesn't know when the next time the individual will take in food again.
So to go back to your question, the ultimate answer to losing the love handles is to incorporate a regular exercise routine into your schedule; as little as 2-3 days a week for starters and build up as you become accustomed to it.
Most people fail to see/maintain any gains because they too often are looking for the "quick fix". What's necessary is a mindset that will continue no matter how little gains may seem at first, and to just persevere. After a few weeks you will be surprised how much change you have achieved and once you're there it will be easy to incorporate it into your lifestyle and reap the rewards.
While all this is accurate, i am not an exercise physiologist. The knowledge i have obtained from my university courses in exercise physiology and exercise nutrition give me the confidence in providing this advice to you knowing that it is not very far from the facts.
Well if you need more clarification, you can no doubt find an endless amount of literature online; but be forewarned of the credibility of some online sources.
If you have further questions feel free to reply!
Well all the best to you and your goals!! : )

since your love handles are fatty tissues, you should do some cardio exercises (running, swimming, jogging) to shed the excess fat. that is the best way to rid yourself of those stubborn love handles. good luck

cardio work outs.... running, biking, swimming - why is that? because the only way to get rid of fat is to burn more calories then you are taking in. There is no way to target one area for fat. If you do weight training and strength training workouts for that area, you will build muscle... but it wont get rid of the fat directly. So you will look even bulkier, because you will have muscle sitting under fat.
