With 10 and 11 year olds, it should be fine! Make sure you have things to occupy them, such as puzzle books, comics etc. It's not the kids, on long haul flights, that are the problem, it's normally the parents. They don't have anything to occupy the kids with and when the kids start playing up, it's the parents that tend to make most noise. The in-flight movies and meals will take up about 50% of the flight time and they should sleep for at least a few hours. You should find the food to be at least OK. I haven't flew by Air NZ before but airlines like BA, Lufthansa, Al Italia, KLM etc. usually do a good meal. You can even get a good meal with Ethiopian Airlines, so Air NZ should be no exception. As for the meals, travelling out you will get US meals and returning you will get Australasian food. Don't be nervous, my daughter has been flying since she was two year old and loves it. She's on her way to Canada tomorrow, from the UK and is absolutely buzzing. She is 10 in two months. As the flight will be such a long haul, it would be advisable to walk up and down the aisle occassionally, to get the blood flowing in your feet. Make sure your feet are clean and you can take your shoes off during the flight, thus allowing more circulation. Don't be like some and take shoes off and have dirty, smelly, sweaty socks on. All passengers, including myself hate them people. As there are four of you, you can swap seats every so often so that everybody gets the chance to have a window seat. This will take away a bit of the boredom for the kids. Finally, you could take a MP3 player, portable DVD or portable game system with you to keep them happy.

KEEP THEM AWAKE by all means before you get on the plane!!! This way they will sleep on the plane. Due to current travel restrictions you may be limited to carry on items, so you may not be able to bring toys on board. However, they do show movies on long distance flights, so this might help entertain them. The last transatlantic flight I was on did show a dreamworks animated movie, so that would have been good for little ones. I would suggest coloring books, as they are allowing books on international flights. Also, check the website of your airline. Northwest has tips on how to fly with little ones. Check it out, that may help. And for little ones like 3 and 2, their favorite stuffed animal for security in a strange environment would help!! OH, and don't forget to bring a lot of PATIENCE! This won't be easy for them, and losing your patience won't make it any better. So remember to take some deep breaths!!

Get a few goodies, like games, mags, little travel games, in your bag that they don't know you have. And when they have COMPLETELY tired of all the stuff THEY brought along, AND all the movies on the flight (most long distant give you a choice of about 7 different movies and channels to watch that all just repeat every hour or so when you've finished watching the movie on CH1, just wait a few minutes and watch another one or the same one again)anyway...
then bring out one thing at a time, and never let them know theres anything else in the bag, and just hold out on each new thing as long as you can, until the boredom levels are starting to hit your stress buttons, then pull out another one.

Well at least your children are older.
It can get a little boring, but the movies help. Some flights you only get one. I hope you are luckier.
Take books and cards and those electronic games.
It will help pass the time.
