Sounds odd, doesn't it?
Basically, I'm currently trying to lose weight (have been on-and-off all my life). This time, I'm starting to get somewhere, however, my situation is this:
I am a college student who, as much as I'd love to, can't go for a 45 minute brisk walk everyday, because of work and classes.
I don't live anywhere near a gym (we have a weights room and gymnastics centre here, but its not a gym-gym, and I'm still a bit uncomfortable about exercising around others).
Can anyone suggest really intensive, yet quiet (as I'm in a dorm) exercises, for weight-loss. I'm currently 108 kg (I can't convert that into pounds, but its a heck of a lot). So crunches and push-ups are a bit difficult as of yet :p
Please! My lifelong bad habits will catch up to me in my 30s! I wanna be healthy!

Some great info: Just to re-cap: I live in a dorm, with thin walls. Any sound, especially those from below (bottom floor) travels.

Well, you can do what I did in college. Get up EARLY and do a workout to an exercise DVD in your apartment before classes start. It's all about prioritization, and if exercise is truly a priority, you will fit it in, in some form or fashion, no matter what.

You don't need strenuous exercise to lose weight. All you have to do is stop eating excessively and diet properly. A male should consume about 1800 calories a day and a female about 1200..
If you remove 500 hundred calories a day from your diet then in a week you will have saved 3500 calories. 3500 calories is one pound of weight.
Go to the internet and google calorie counters. You will find several websites they are usually free. You can check to see how many calories your body needs to keep its current weight. Then you can see how many calories you can take off. Walking is all the exercise you really need. Bicycle riding, swimming. These things will tone up your body but only dieting will make you lose. It is a simple law of physics.Maybe after you lose some weight you will be able to exercise.
I walk a half hour every day and have reduced my calories to 1800. It is easy. You have to develop new habits. You do not need to eat so much to enjoy food or to keep healthy.
Good luck. I lost over ten pounds in the last eleven days. I need to lose 162 pounds I think that is about 70kg. I started at 152 kg.

Try yoga for a quite workout in your room, and go for a brisk walk for your cardio...we tend to manage to find the time to do things that are important to us, so make your workout part of your schedule 4 - 5 days a week just like they were a class you can't miss or anything else you consider a priority.
After all, this is your health, right? You only get one body in this life...take care of it!

Well, you should try walking where you have to go instead of taking the bus or getting a ride. Drink plenty of water. As a matter of fact, before you eat each meal, drink a glass of water. This will curb your appetite so you dont eat as much. If you can, you can do 10 minutes of squats and crunches before you go to bed in your dorm room.
Eat more fruits and veggies.
Good luck

u would need to get out if ur dorm room to exercise coz theres only a certain amount of weight u could lose in such small place. and i think u r just making excuses. i would suggest a 45 minute walk that u think u can't do- I'm sure u would be able to fit it into ur schedule if u wake up an hr early. once ur body gets used to it, start running. if u r not willing to exercise then u might wanna consider dieting

You don't have to do any push ups and cruches just yet. A good way to do intense cardio is to simply buy a jump rope and do that for as long as you can. At a good pace, you will get very tired in 10 to 15 minutes. But just keep going. If you get very sweaty (which you will) then you have done a good job. Jumping rope is just as good as running on the treadmill or riding a bike and you can do it wherever you want.

Ride your bike or walk to work & between classes. Walk or ride your bike whenever possible for errands or social events. Eat a healthy balanced diet and grab fruits & veggies for in-between snacks. Pack your lunches to stay away from fast food.
Get a good Yoga DVD to do in quietly in your room. Its a great workout (you'll be sore in places you never even knew you had muscle!) but its also very soothing, a great stress reliever, and perfect for getting greater flexibility and toning muscle.
Good luck! You can do it!

Good for you! You can try small weights to use in your room or if you have the room, a gymball. Or a resistance tube I think it's called, you know like a big rubber band with handles. It'll be good to do weight training as more muscle mass you have, more calories you burn. Hope this helped and good luck!

you can go for walks. I walk up to an hour every day first thing in the morning. you don't have to do it all at once. break it up into smaller times, like 15 minutes at a time. don't you get that much going to class? watch what you eat (cafeteria food is terrible for those on a diet!) and drink plenty of water.

try using magazines like SELF and SHAPE, go to a book store and pick out a book with exercises in them. (these exercises mainly use only yourself, weights, yoga mat, pilates ball or other stuff . but if you feel you cant do it by yourself and need someone there, get a dvd of some sort on excersise. :] my favorites are pilates with ana caban or SELF or SHAPE videos. <3333333 have fun
