Those must be separated into two questions, I think.
You'll be hard-pressed to find someone who dislikes the Mormons themselves, because they do things like bake you cookies when your kid's sick and offer to mow your lawn while you're on vacation.
The RELIGION, though, is very dynamic and you'll get many opinions ranging from "God's only proclaimed truth and the unique way to godhood" to "complete fraud" to "Satan's work among men."
My personal opinion is that Mormonism is a great steppingstone for those who have difficulty identifying with God and would like a direction in their lives. Many people have begun lives of service and love through "the waters of baptism" in the LDS Church. Although the LDS gospel can be just as much of a crutch or a burden to some (see Chris/CM/Sarah Shaw) as it is a positive influence, it is generally good for the people who believe in it.
Now, the other side of the coin is that the Church misrepresents its history. Even some of the most devout LDS people realize that the Church isn't completely candid about its history and misrepresents the truth at times. In fact, Deseret News reported that the majority of active LDS members wish the Church had a more "frank and honest" approach to its history.
http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,660224413,00.html
Some items in particular include the Mountain Meadows Massacre, abandoned doctrines (blood atonement, servant sealings, polygamy as a requirement for salvation), Joseph Smith's personal history, and the way the succession crisis was resolved in 1844.
For instance, many LDS Church publications cite people writing in their journals that Brigham Young's "countenance" changed into Joseph Smith's at the pulpit, but what the publications don't say is that many people also wrote that they saw it only with their "spiritual eyes," and more importantly, that the whole story resulted from a few people asking the others "didn't you guys see the Spirit change Brigham Young's face into Joseph Smith's?" and then when a few said "no," they were accused of not being in tune with the Spirit. The natural result is for more people to report the sighting discreetly so that their posterity wouldn't misjudge their own righteousness the same way the others' righteousness was judged.
The Church is a great church, but the unfortunate truth is that there are probably above 4 million people who continue to devote everything they have to what they truly believe is God's Holy Kingdom on Earth whilst oblivious to many key truths that would influence that testimony.
NOTE: Yes, I'm aware that there are 13 million members, but under a third of them attend church 23% of the time or more, and many active attenders (like myself, for example) really don't believe in the Church but pretend to for family's sake.

Well, since I am one, I'd say that I believe in the church, and I know that most- notice I said most!!!- people in the church are really good people. We have a saying in the church- at least where I'm from- that says "the church is perfect, the people aren't". So even though we believe the church is true, there are people who aren't the best examples of what we believe.
On the other hand, there are those who really hold to the ideals and all we stand for. Those people, you will find, are some of the nicest, caring, honest people you will meet.
You will hear bad things about us and what we believe, but if you really want to know what we believe, from someone who has lived it, and is still living it, let me know! I'd be glad to answer any questions you have, and clear up any false things you have heard.
Have a great day!!!!

I think Mormons as a whole are decent, hard working, honest and spiritual people... as to their religion, they are entitled to their opinions, as am I.

I generally find Mormons to be normal people, aside from their religious beliefs. Children and young adults seem to be especially naive and sheltered.
The religion is a joke. Quite silly, indeed.

I'm surprised that many on here call us a false religion, led by a false prophet, what lies you are spreading about my Church. I'm LDS and I have wondered why so many think that we are a false religion, if we are false then so is 99.99% of all other christianity based churches.
We believe in God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, The Bible and its teachings, we have apostles and prophets like in Christs time, and so what if we have the Book of Mormon, Christ did so many things when he was on Earth and throughout his ministry that if they were all to be written they would fill the entire earth
John 20: 30 ¶ And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
This Scripture says that Chirst did many things and they weren't written, that is what we say is the Book of Mormon, it's Christs dealings with the People here in the Ancient Americas, how hard is it to believe that people existed in ancient America and God loved them so much as well that he sent Christ to teach them about him and also that God chose prophets within these people to teach them about the priciples of the Gospel and about God and Christ. I find that very realistic, not because I'm Mormon but because its common sense that God would want all his children to learn about him.
I leave this to those who answered unjustly to this question.
This is written by Nephi a Prophet of God who wrote his testimony several times in the Book of Mormon, he says
(2 Nephi 33 ) 10 And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good.
11 And if they are not the words of Christ, judge ye—for Christ will show unto you, with power and great glory, that they are his words, at the last day; and you and I shall stand face to face before his bar; and ye shall know that I have been commanded of him to write these things, notwithstanding my weakness.
The "Mormon" religion is a great religion, it has great principles that if you follow them you will be healthy, blessed, and closer to God. It only has a bad name because people distort the truth about us, and their preachers tell them lies about our church so that people will stay away from us and stay in their Church.

I am in love with and happen to be sealed to a Mormon. My belief is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is perfect, the members aren't. We are all human and make mistakes like any other person
